Kelvinblue Oh passes

A great musician and great friend, Kelvinblue Oh, passed away in the early morning hours of 14 July. He was a fixture at FFH, playing monthly for over 2 years. In RL, his name was Kevin Navy and he really was "The Real Deal". Since FFH closed down, I had only been able to go hear him a few times but he was shredding the fretboard as always. The last time we talked at length, he told me he was taking a sabbatical from SL, preparing to move to Germany to be with Gwyn in RL.

Kev made it there, and resumed playing in SL, pleasing Blues fans everywhere. In fact, he played a set the day he died. Kev left us too soon, but he died happy, died doing what he enjoyed, playing the Blues. His music will go on, and I can definitely say he left his mark on the world.

They had a nice memorial for him at Blues & Brews, with DJs playing his tunes and several SL musicians doing a set. Kev touched everyone who ever heard him, and I'll miss him for sure. I never had a chance to book him into Rock U, but B&B plans to have a tribute every Sunday at 4PM, which was his regular set time. So next time you hear the Blues, think of Kev.... he's up there jamming with Jimi & SRV now.

Just realized I hadn't posted in damn near 2 months. No idea where the time went, suppose it got sucked into a wormhole by a stray bit of antimatter. Work has been hectic, to say the least, recently. I'm constantly amazed by the level of incompetence shown by management. I really have a hard time believing people can be that clueless and somehow manage to survive. Where's Darwin when you need him?

Rock U continues to grow steadily, folks are finding us through word of mouth. We've added some fantastic new DJs recently, so if you haven't been by in a while come check it out!! As always, the calendar is the place to find the most up-to-date schedule information.

I spun at SL8B last Tuesday, but canceled my usual Thursday & Friday sets due to scheduling conflicts with reality. I also did a Relay benefit at The Twisted Joint this past Sunday. I'm back with a vengeance this week, lots of new tunes in the queue, and of course no repeats!! Sometimes it's hard to believe I've been doing this for so long.

Oh well, seems my brain has had enough for tonight, just wanted to get a post up to let ya know we're still kickin' it loud at Rock U, and I'm still the Freakiest DJ in the galaxy!! Rock U Rocked You!!

Well, last Thursday we had the Grand Opening of Rock U.....and it seriously kicked ass!!! A whole bunch of folks crawled out of the woodwork, people I hadn't seen in ages....the music was awesome as always, and the build was complimented by everyone. During the sets, we added some new Staff, worked on the schedule, the usual. We have a web calendar so you can check event days & times.

Only open 4 days a week for now, taking it easy. Like every club, we have a need for hosties, so if you or anyone you know wants to host the best music on the Grid, let one of us know. The variety & excellence of the music is matched nowhere else....if you haven't checked Rock U out, make sure you do!!

New Venue Opening 5 May 2011

Rock U: The University of Rock & Metal officially opens its doors on Thursday, 5 May, 2011.

Ever since the Funeral Home closed, folks have been telling me how much they missed it, and that I should reopen. 10,000 clubs on the Grid, but none has the musical excellence & variety of FFH. I really wasn't looking to get back into the club business, they are a lot of work. A couple weeks ago, Injure Rogers got hold of me & Oz and proposed that the 3 of us get together & open a venue. We had a little Staff meeting about a week ago to talk about themes, etc. and came up with The University of Rock & Metal.

One of the saddest things I hear in SL clubs is the same, lameass corporate dreck that you can hear on any given FM station. Freakheim's motto, "It's All About The Music", is more than mere words, it's my mission in life. There is so much excellent music that most people never get the chance to hear. I opened Freakheim so I could play whatever I wanted, whatever I discovered that totally rocked, without worrying about playlists.

I'm not the only person who feels that way, and two people who have rocked with me from the beginning are Oz & Injure. We're out to make sure that the best music in the Galaxy gets heard...new bands, obscure bands, indies, SL artists, whatever....a lot of the old FFH DJ crew is joining us on Staff, so if you miss the musical excellence & variety from FFH, you'll get it at Rock U. To date we have Blitz Berliner, Guen, Martina, Bane, Twistmy & Vanguard joining Oz, Injure & myself.

Come on by this Thursday 5 May & check out the awesome build, (once again a scratch build by Kaedy), and rock with Oz from 2-4, me from 4-6 & Injure from 6-8. Poke the sign by the door for a group invite or ask one of us and we'll get ya enrolled!!

Well, it looks like I'm at least able to remember to blog biweekly...I must be having fun, because time is flying by....already near the end of March, we've had a Supermoon, a few days of 80 degrees, pollen coating everything...Spring in the South!!! I'm just glad it stopped freezing, though it's still a possibility. It's so nice to not need a coat, to be able to dress comfortably & not be cold. Looks like the Abominable Snowmonster socked Toronto & the Northeast, they will have to fight harder to be free of its icy grip.

So yeah, the brain is thawing and I actually had a theme for last week's show. This week, nothing came to mind, so I filled the hopper with stuff I've picked up recently, old favorites, familiar tunes, and new indie tunes. Gonna have a free-for-all & see what sticks. If you've been listening for any amount of time, you know that I feed off of interaction, and steer the show while in progress. I did a set last Saturday completely on the fly, loading abut 3 or 4 tracks ahead and it absolutely rocked!!

Read a news story today about a Canadian hockey player...a PROFESSIONAL hockey player...who was upset at the ferocity with which he had been checked into the boards. The league decided the foul was not severe enough to suspend the offending player, so this wuss complains to the POLICE!!! This is the equivalent of running home & telling your mommy. I mean, come on!! This is HOCKEY FFS!!! If you can't take the checking, get the hell off the ice!!

And I thought our pro jocks were bad...we have real live ex-cons out there playing in the NFL & NBA, if you foul them I seriously doubt they're gonna file a police report. Might kick your ass in the parking lot....or steal your girlfriend.

Friday Freakshow, 25 Feb 6-9PM EST

Yep, almost time for the Freakshow!!! I know I haven't posted the past 2 weeks, been a bit crazy here at the Funeral Home. (The Freakshow rocked on as always, I just didn't update my blog) Finally, all the dead seem to be still and I can get back to what truly matters....ROCKIN!!!!

There's been a couple of changes to the chat at WitchezBrew, so I'll explain how to get in. First, head over to www.witchezbrew.com like always. Click the "Chat~N~Listen" tab. Scroll down a bit, and there's a box asking for nickname/password. The word "Guest" is already filled in by the word "Nick" (short for nickname) and the room will say WitchezBrew.com. Just click the "connect" button without changing anything. Once you're in the chat, you'll be able to choose a new Nickname and password. I'll walk you thru it, just a couple button pokes & you'll be all set up. The next time you come by, you'll log in with your Nickname & password.

The chat also looks a bit different, but it's the same Freaky rockers as before. The Shoutcast streamer is at the top of the page, and has the track info, like before. All that matters is the music, and that will still be the best music in the Galaxy as you expect from the Freakshow and WitchezBrew.

Last week I tried dual-streaming the Freakshow both inworld and out. It was a smashing success, allowing me to play for two audiences at once! So yep, looks like this will be how it goes on Fridays, the Freakshow will run 3-6PM SLT/6-9PM EST @ Twisted Joint, and if you're stuck out here in RL you can tune me in at www.witchezbrew.com. The Freakiness is worldwide & catching, make sure you don't miss a note!! My RL has gotten quite insane, and I may have to further cut down my set schedule, but the Freakshow is definitely a keeper!!!

There are a few of ya Freaks who haven't come by in a while, make sure you at least drop in & say hey!! The 3-hour format allows for overlap with other sets, so no excuses for not getting your Freak on!! It's all live, requests taken, and conversation second to none. Friday Freakshow dual-stream 14 January

The Friday Freakshow returned to the air last week, and this week we're gonna kick it up a notch! You can still tune in & chat at WitchezBrew (see last week's post for details), or if you happen to be in SL, come on by the Twisted Joint!! We had several people stop by the chat while inworld, and I decided to make the show available, live, to everyone whether in SL or not.

As always, I have some musical surprises up my sleeve, so make sure to tune in however you can!! The more the merrier, especially in the chat room, no need for registration!! Just pop on in & say hey, make a request, & get to know the Freaky folks who tune in every week. Phedre will be hosting me in SL, without her help I wouldn't be attempting to dual-stream. Kinda cool how technology now allows us to be in 2 places at once.....if only I could send my avie to work so my corpse could get some rest. Working on that. Friday Freakshow Rides Again

I know, it's been ages since I last posted. I'm still undead & well, still rockin' SL here & there. Starting tomorrow, 7 January 2011, I'll be bringing the Freakshow to the internet!! Yep, I have a gig at a web station, so no SL needed. You can listen from work, or whatever. If you really want to get in on the Freakiness (and request, etc.), there is a live chat, no registration needed, just come on in & keep me company!!

My show runs Fridays from 6-9PM EST, which is 3-6PM PST/SLT, or 11PM-2AM UK time. Any other time conversions, let me know. What you need to do is point your browser to www.witchezbrew.com, and click on the "Chat Room" tab to join the chat, or the "Tune In" tab to listen. Going out with a bang

It's been said many times in show business that you should go out with a bang, and that we did. Freakatorium hosted a Halloween week full of scheduled events that culminated in a true Freak Halloween bash, complete with DJ Battle and guest DJs. On the night of Halloween itself, we decided to close down.

Those of you who are long-time Freaks remember how it all started, Kaedy & I would host grand parties on our island every now & then so we could feature the best music in SL without being constrained by club rules. Eventually that morphed into Freakheim, a club that focused on the music, with a mission to showcase the world's widest array of DJs and interpreted "rock" very broadly.

When RL got the best of me and forced me to close Freakheim, some of my awesome, long-time Staff decided to open Freakatorium to keep the music playing. In spite of our best efforts, the decision was made to close down and go on hiatus. The Freak brand is very dear to me, and I realized that in order to ensure that music takes center stage, I needed to be involved in a much greater capacity than I had time for.

I'd like to publicly thank Ishi, Rhyanna, Zak, Phedre & Oz for all their efforts. Freakatorium got off to a great start, and things were rolling along until RL began taking its toll once again. Between family commitments, computer malfunctions, and the general stress of running a club, the fun began slipping away. I made the decision to quit while we were ahead, and put the Freak club on hiatus until I am able to commit to running a club again.

The Band of Freaks started out as my personal Group, and will return to that. I'll be playing here & there on the grid, so keep an eye out for announcements. We will also be having the usual major parties, just like in the old days. We're planning something for Thanksgiving week, and of course the Freakin' Xmas Bash. I do plan to reopen Freakheim at some point in the future, in the meantime make sure you keep tabs on your favorite Freakin' DJs and go hear them wherever they may be playing!

A Change of Seasons, A Change of Venue

Most of you have discovered by now that Freakheim Funeral Home has closed. The good news is, the music lives on at the Freakatorium, make sure you look for it and come & check it out!! My RL has gotten incredibly busy lately, and I no longer have the time necessary to operate a venue. Freakheim was a big part of me, a means for me to spread my musical message and showcase all those DJs who might not otherwise have a place to play. Having to close down weighed heavily on my heart, but I didn't have a choice.

The good news is, a lot of people felt the same way, and took it upon themselves to open a venue so the Freaky good times could continue. I'm helping a bit from the background, and I'll play there once a week or so. The best news is, the music will continue, and the Freaks still have a home. The Freakatorium opened this past Monday, and they have their own blog, so this one will become a place for me to talk about music in general and highlight the new bands I've found.

I'll link to the Freakatorium blog over there on the side, and you can link from there to their events calendar as well. Ishi, Phedre, Oz & Zak have taken the reins and promise to continue to bring you the best in music, the Freakiest convos, and the best time to be had in SL. Even RL can't stop the Freakiness!!

Saw a news clip on Yahoo yesterday about a 12-year-old boy in Texas being given an indefinite in-school suspension for having long hair. WTF is this crap? Can we please remove all the narrow-minded bassackwards people from positions of authority? This should have been settled 35 years ago when I went through it. Attacks on individuality are unAmerican. The boy's mother makes the statement that her son should be allowed to wear long hair because girls are allowed. The proper argument is that girls are allowed to wear theirs any way they like. I have never heard of a girl receiving discipline for having a crewcut. Sexual stereotyping is ILLEGAL, and violates our rights as individuals. I realize that the whole point of a government "education" system is to churn out good little subjects (sheep), who are afraid to express individuality. Beaten into submission so that they are easily controlled. We need to stand behind everyone who dares express an individual thought, rebels against the "norm", and otherwise refuses to be a sheep. The kid in the story is a budding metalhead....awesome!! I refer to those of us who continually question authority and bullheadedly refuse to subordinate our individuality as "goats". Be a goat. It is our individuality that differentiates humans from every other species. Any institution that attempts to strip us of our individuality and mold us to their ideal needs to be eliminated.

We had the band [Engrama] play Freakheim for the first time this past Saturday, and all I can say is WOW!!! They're a duo based in Spain, featuring a guitar & drums, and they don't use any backing tracks...it's all LIVE!! Not only are their original tunes superb, they also do a few covers and truly make them their own!! It was an amazing hour that went by all too quickly. If you missed it this past weekend, make sure you catch their set next time they play!!

Most of you know that I absolutely live for music, and I hear an average of ten new bands a week. I'm always looking for something with artistic novelty, something that absolutely melts my mind...and [Engrama] definitely did that! Superb musicianship, vocals that bordered on ethereal, and a unique sound!! I'm looking forward to having them here again as soon as I can, and I encourage you to look for them and check them out for yourself.

No Shortage of Idiots

Whether RL or SL, there is an abundance of idiocy. The following exchange occurred recently, so let me provide some backing details. The only people involved are me and the person with whom I was disagreeing. His name has been changed, just because it was funny to do so. Ian came up with the pseudonym, and it fits.

As you've probably noticed, SL clubs come and go almost daily. Freakheim has been around over two years, and continues to grow. We have a dedicated Staff and a group of core patrons who feel at home, welcome and accepted. Of course, the primary attraction is the music, which is the number one priority, and the thing that makes Freakheim what it is.

When you decide to open a venue, the hardest thing to do is advertise and attract patrons. One way to do it as a DJ is to make the rounds of as many SL clubs as you can, put on a memorable show, and gather fans. There are hundreds of thousands of DJs in SL, but very few good ones. Freakheim has always prided itself in having only the best DJs, ones who have something to say musically and can connect with the listeners.

Some folks, however, don't feel like investing the time and effort required to build a fan base. Their way of recruiting patrons is to go into the groups they belong to and send out VIP invitations to their club. Often they will target Staff members at other clubs, since they also need to have DJs and hosts. Just such an incident happened this past Friday, and two of my Staff members received invites to a VIP group from a person they did not know. When IMed, the person stated that he had opened a club and was recruiting VIPs.

This person had been in the Freakheim VIP group for a couple of years, but has been in the club only twice that I know of. The last time was more than a year ago. I first met him when I managed another club. I hired him as a DJ, but he turned out to be a complete flake. He would agree to play a set then simply not show up. He never indicated that he had changed his mind, and I would confirm dates and times with him the day before a scheduled set. Evidently he decided that honoring this sort of personal commitment was beneath him. He was removed from the roster, and we spoke maybe once or twice over the next year. The last time he was at Freakehim, he made a point of requesting music that was off-genre for the theme, and was basically a wiseass. Frankly, I had forgotten all about him, and figured that he had left SL or rebirthed himself. The following is a transcript of an IM conversation we had when I logged in and ejected him from the group:

An excerpt from this conversation is now immortalized on the back wall of the club. Whether you agree with his methods or not, it does show that some people are bold beyond words, and evidently have no shame. Once I had him dead-to-rights, he proceeded to personal insults and disparaging my music collection...of which he knows nothing. By this point, I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe...and he kept IMing...you have to wonder, if this is how he treats those he considers friends, how does he treat his enemies? Griefer attacks?

Freaky 4th of July!!

Well, as always, we had a killer weekend, complete with live music, awesome DJs, free beer & fireworks!!! Thanks to everyone who worked this weekend, I know a lot of ya had to work around RL plans. Once again, we provided several solid hours of the BEST music in SL, and everyone had the time of their lives!

On the news front, Maxpaine Skytower had his DJ debut Thursday, he'll be kicking it off 12-2 on a regular basis. And phedre Goldshark made the jump to DJ, filling in for April & Myn this past Wednesday while both are away on vacation. phedre actually started on Tuesday with the 12-2, and will be in that slot regularly as well. phedre hasn't given up hosting, so she'll be doing that as well!!

We also have another hostie turned DJ, Ami Heninga. She's spinning the kickoff set 1-3PM on Saturdays, she really rocks!! Ami also continues to host. martina Ivanovic has brought her Symphonic/Spanish metal set to Sundays at 1PM, and it's absolutely killer!!

All in all, things are really rockin' at Freakheim!! (did you expect anything less?)

#1 in the Showcase under Music!!!

There is a tab in Search labeled "Showcase", and you can scroll through various categories to get a list of the businesses featured under each one. Last night when you chose "Music", Freakheim Funeral Home was at the top of the list!!! Thanks to the most awesome Staff in SL, we have stayed true to our mission of providing the best and widest variety of Rock music on the grid. We also have a wonderful, friendly atmosphere where everyone feels at home. Unlike a lot of the clubs I've been to, we have managed to avoid becoming "cliquish". I'd like to personally thank each and every Freak for helping us to achieve this recognition. As always, Freakheim will continue to be "All About the Music", and a place I hope everyone feels instantly at home. We're one big, music-loving family, and I'm proud of that!!!

Kaedy's shop is still next door, just turn left as you exit the club. We had a Staff meeting this past Saturday, and a lot of good ideas came up. Stay tuned for updates, I'll be acting on the ideas as I can. We now have a Subscribe-o-Matic to the left of the doors, giving folks who are maxed on groups another option to stay abreast of Freakheim events. I'll be sending out notecards to operators later this week. There is also a suggestion box over by the stage, click it for instructions. Freakheim is a group effort, and if we all participate we will remain the best club in SL.

I finally broke free of some RL constraints, so I'm in a lot more, and trying to catch up with everything inworld. Thanks to an amazing, dedicated Staff, Freakheim has lasted over 2 years, and shows no signs of slowing down. More Freakiness and musical excellence is coming your way, guaranteed!!

Ronnie James Dio passes away

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

Yep, I'm still in a battle with RL for my time and attention, but one of the biggest time-suckers is about to go away. Meanwhile, my fabulous Staff has kept the place rockin!!! We've had excellent turnout lately and I only see it increasing. As always, Freakheim is committed to bringing you the BEST in music and we will not compromise. We have a couple more DJs that may join us, and I will have more time to do some recruiting in the coming months. I also plan to play out more and spread the Freaky message that life is too short for boring, corporate music!!

Freakheim's 2nd Anniversary Bash was a loud, Freaky event!! We had 4 of Freakheim's best DJs battling it out for 4 hours, wacky contests, and The Freak Magnet returning to The Saturday Shred!! The place was packed all afternoon & evening, and Freakiness was had by all. Contest participation was down, seems I just can't give away money LOL. The good news is, that means folks were there for the MUSIC, which is what Freakheim is all about!! It warms my undead heart that there are people who value killer tunes as much as I do, and they're willing to give up a significant part of their Saturday to rock with a bunch of Freaks!! It's been a wild 2 years, and we plan to keep the music going just as long as we can. The schedule is filling out once again, and I'm on the lookout for even more DJs and live acts, so stay tuned!! This coming Saturday, 1 May, both Etherian Kamaboko and Kelvinblue Oh are returning to the Freakheim stage starting at 5PM SLT!! Come on down for some awesome LIVE music, Freak style!!

Another Freakin' Week!!

Damn, it's already been a week! As usual, Freakheim rocked all week long, I've been seeing a lot of new faces in the club, and that's awesome!! I know we've been steadily adding Freaks, and the word continues to get out that we have the BEST MUSIC on the grid!! And I'll say it again, the FFH Staff is superb!! Rhyanna has joined the DJ ranks, adding yet another hat to her collection, she's been filling in when a DJ needs off, and her sets seriously rock!!! I still manage to get in every day, if only for a while, and enjoy myself every time I do. Another couple weeks & my exile will be over, and I plan to roar back with a vengeance!! In my absence, Bane Jinx has been totally slaying on the weekends, for which I'm grateful.

We have a few ideas in the works for the late Spring/Summer, so never fear, the Freakiness will be turned up a notch! We'll get back to the live acts as soon as I can guarantee my presence, I realize that I've let that slip somewhat, but my RL commitments make scheduling impossible. There are still a few holes in the DJ calendar, if you can pick one up, or can recommend a DJ, let us know!! And most of all, thanks for being a Freak!!

DJ Battle Rescheduled to 24 April

I got sidetracked last week & never did manage to post. As you have probably figured out, the DJ Battle got rescheduled LOL. We decided to do it on 24 April to celebrate 2 years of maximum Freakiness at FFH, as well as celebrate my & Kaedy's 3rd Rezday. As with previous Battles, there will be hourly contests, oversize prizes, and the best music anywhere, guaranteed.

I have a few RL commitments to deal with, so I'm only spinning the Monday 4-6 up until the 24th, if you need to get your Freak on, it has to be on a Monday! The good news is, the music keeps on rockin' with the addition of Bane Jinx to the FFH roster. She's gonna fill in for me on Friday & Saturday and has also been popping in to fill empty weekday slots. Give her a listen, she's definitely a Freak!!

I'd also like to thank Maxx for doing the DoubleDutch with Oz this past Friday and rockin' the dead again on Saturday!! We had lots of happy Freaks this past weekend, and that's a good thing!!! I'll try to keep the posting regular, and will have details about the Battle as we get closer. until then, be Freaky!!!

Yep, we have another one of our famous DJ Battles scheduled for 3 April, 1-5PM SLT. As of now, we have Lainey Thorne, Guenevere DeCuir and Ozark Hax lined up, we should have a total of 5 by the time the Battle rolls around. I've been so swamped by RL that I haven't followed up on all the messages, but you can be sure that the Freakiest tunes in SL will be played, the contests will be Freaky, and we'll raise a lot of L$ for Relay!!!

We just had another kickass week at Freakheim, with Ishi taking some open sets since she had some free time. We still have a lot of holes in the calendar however, and I'll need all of you to keep your ears open for DJs who are Freak material. If you hear somebody you think would be a good fit, send 'em to me and I'll give them a listen!! I don't get out & about as much as I used to, and I'm relying on my awesome Staff to be my eyes & ears, let's keep the Freak train rolling!!

RFL 2010 Kickoff ROCKED!!

As most of you know, the 2010 SL Relay For Life kicked off this past Saturday, 13 March. Freakheim's home team, so to speak, is Spinners for Life. I've personally been a member of this team since its inception, and it is really a great bunch of people. The inaugural event was an Exhibition of Freakiness with myself & April Coswell sharing the stream and spinning the Freakiest tunes in the Galaxy. We raised over L$15000 at this event, a great start by any measure. Relay runs until mid-July, so stay tuned for more events as the season goes on.

Relay for Life is a personal cause of mine, the recent advances in cancer research and detection has saved the lives of many people close to me. Unfortunately, I lost a co-worker last month to cancer. It brought home the fact that there is more work to be done, and every penny donated helps. If at all possible, donate to Relay through the kiosk to the right of the front doors of the club. Or any Relay kiosk. It's not about Spinners, it's about saving lives.

Thank you all who attended the Kickoff, we had a Freakin' blast as always!! The next major event scheduled is Saturday 3 April, we're going to have a DJ Battle from 1-5PM featuring the best DJs in SL spinning the best music in SL. Come by and dance, enter the contests, and donate to Relay.

Yes, that's why Freakheim exists, and why it keeps on rolling no matter what. I was rockin out to some serious old skool a few days ago, I like to toss in classic Metal as well as the new stuff I dig up. So many listeners weren't even around back then and I love to turn 'em on to the roots of Metal. The lyrics to one song seemed to fit the Freakheim mission, as well as my life creed. Holes in Space & Time

....Or, at least, holes in the schedule. There are a few slots labeled "Fill Needed" or "OPEN", if you can grab any of those, please do. Also, keep your ears open for any DJs that would be a good fit for Freakheim. The ones we have are the best in SL, and word is getting out about us once again. The most pressing needs right now are the Tuesday slots, 2-4 needs a fill (possibly long term), and 4-6 is permanently open. Once we get those handled, we need a 2-4 for Fridays, preferably someone who has their own following. Also, Saturday will need some help, we have openings for 11-1 & 1-3. Most of these slots have an assigned Hostie, all we need is the music!

Traffic has been steady and increasing, in spite of the Olympics and whatever else is on the tube...I've seen a lot of new Freaks lately, and more often than not people in the club are TPing folks in...who stay because the music is the BEST!! Thanks to all of you, we're continuing to rock both the living and the dead in fine, Freaky fashion! RL has been keeping me out, but I'm still doing my 3 FFH sets and of course I'm always hunting down new music.

Kaedy's done some more decorating outside, we have a nice little area to hang out between sets or whatever. We will probably have more live bands out on the lawn in the future, just for the fun of it! I don't have anyone on the schedule as of yet, but I'll be contacting booking agents this week & hopefully get the live bands lined up. If you hear a band you'd like me to book at FFH, let me know!

And the Flakes keep falling...

You know it takes something extraordinary for me to post more than once a week or so. No, it's not still snowing in Atlanta. The flakes I refer to are people who lack the common courtesy of telling me they are no longer going to be working for me. I understand RL, and often SL, hits us upside the head with all sorts of unexpected ugliness. I don't need a reason, or an excuse, or any more information you're not willing to share. I do, however, expect you to act like a professional. That means an IM or email stating that you will no longer be part of the Freakheim Staff. Just dropping the Groups and disappearing is juvenile. I don't care what tragedy, or most likely self-induced drama, has befallen you.

I have had two people do this this week, or at least I found out about it this week. These two people, and those before them that pulled the same stunt, will never work in one of my venues again. Ever. SL may be a "game", but when you make a commitment, you stand by it. If you can no longer meet that obligation, or no longer wish to, the professional thing to do is make that fact known.

That being said, this rant does not include those who took the approximately 30 seconds to let me or a manager know that they would be unable to work. I am very understanding, and all excuses are good excuses. I understand the need for occasional extended absences, household emergencies, illness, what have you. Hell, I know DJ burnout all too well. Freakheim has outlasted 90% of the clubs in SL because I will not compromise my mission to bring folks the best music on the planet.I also run it as a professional operation, where everyone is treated with respect and dignity. In most cases, this respect is reciprocated. To those of you who chose to disrespect me, the Staff, my time, money & vision....Karmic backlash is a motherfucker.

4-Day Party Weekend!!!!

WOW!!! This past weekend was a 4-Day party extravaganza! My RL birthday was Thursday, and I logged in to a party at Freakheim, a nice surprise and just what I needed after a long day. Friday was full of its usual Freakiness, I decided to do an International set in honor of the Olympics, and we had a "colors" contest with some amazing outfits! Saturday started out like any other day, Zaza took the 1PM and then Oz at 3, I was busy in RL and logged in about 45 min before Oz ended, and Rhyanna had booked the RAILS to play another party for me!! It was definitely a surprise of the good kind, and we got to keep the tradition of the RAILS being the first band to play any venue I've ever had. They are one of the longest-lasting bands in SL and I love to hear them as often as I can! We also broke in the front lawn of the place, there's something totally rockin' about a bonfire at a kegger and the fire inspector won't let me do that indoors LOL!

I followed the RAILS set with a special Anti-Valentine's Shred full of all those songs about broken hearts, cheating lovers & suicide (no, I didn't play any Country). We kept the party going outside, and folks dressed in black & grey and we had a perfectly gloomy evening! Sunday was unusually quiet until Guen rocked out with a set of Love/Hate that put a Freaky spin on Valentine's Day itself. Keep an eye out for notices this week, we have RL attacking some folks so sets will change a bit. As usual, the best music in SL will be at Freakheim!!

The Freaks have a new home!!!

Yep, unlike RL, things in SL can move pretty damn quickly!! Only a week after setting up in the Graveyard, the Club itself is back in operation at our new home!! wooHoo!! Make sure you check Notices for the new LM, or stop by the Graveyard & grab one. I broke the place in Saturday night with an extended Shred, the last half hour of which was all "Freak" tunes!! We had Freaky cheerleaders in abundance and their pics are up on the wall for all to see. Come by & check out the landscaping Kaedy did in record time, and enjoy our new home!! We even have a waterfall in case ya need a bath!!

Freakheim has moved!!!

Yep, I sold the sim, so we've moved the club activities to the Freakheim Graveyard in DeLuca. Make sure you get the new LM from the group notices or ask any of the Staff & we'll hook ya up!!! Thanks to the wonderful Freakheim Staff, everything went off without a hitch & we didn't miss a single rockin' set!! Of course, Kaedy did all the hard work getting the venue ready to move into and decorating it with very little notice. Come play among the gravestones at what is still the Freakiest club in SL!!!

Full Freak Ahead!!!

Hard to believe two weeks have passed since my last post. Freakheim is rolling full Freak ahead in 2010!! You may have noticed a bunch of new names & slots on the calendar, your eyes are not deceiving you! The Colosseum of Rock has closed down, and the best of their staff has become part of the Freakheim family. The owners of COR also had a commitment to bring you the best music in SL, and we have shared some staff for quite a while, if unofficially. I'd like to ask you to drop in & check out the new sets, each DJ brings something new to FFH, all in the name of providing the best music in the galaxy.

We are still looking (and listening) for more DJs and live acts, and hope to bring even more live music to FFH. Right now we have an open DJ slot Tuesdays 2-4PM SLT, if you can grab that please let me know. So far no concrete offers on the sim, but it is still for sale. I'm trying to balance SL & RL as best I can, and the awesome FFH Staff is making it much easier. There are days when I will only be inworld briefly, but I do keep on top of things from out here. All in all, be Freaky!!

Club Calendar has been updated

We had our first ever Staff meeting yesterday to plan the future of Freakheim, and it was very productive! The Calendar has been updated, as well as the Event listing here on the blog, and it looks like we have something going every day of the week. There are still a few holes, but I am waiting to hear back from folks who were not at the meeting. From all indications, FFH 3.0 will be better than ever, with a lot more input from all involved. Most of the Staff has been with us a long time, and we have grown a fun little family business. I'll try to keep the blog updated, since we have some fun ideas in the works, as well as the best music anywhere in the galaxy!! A heartfelt thank-you to everyone involved, this is definitely going to be a joint effort, as my RL shows no signs of slowing down.

Yep, a whole new year, a new decade, a fresh start in many ways. This year has good fortune written all over it, as it starts on a Friday! And to top things off, when we ring in the Chinese new year in February, it will be the Year of the Tiger!! So yeah, to those of you battered & bruised by 2009, things will turn around for you. Not without effort on your part, of course, but toss away the negative energy with your 2009 calendar.

When I announced that K & I would be selling the sim and putting Freakheim on hiatus, almost everyone said that they would miss FFH and the feeling that they were comfortable and at home. I built FFH as a home for us, a place where we could revel in the best music in the galaxy and be free of the drama and cliqueishness of many other clubs.

The sim is still going to be sold, but we have decided NOT to go on hiatus. FFH will continue at its present location until I have a deal in place, then will be moved to a new location as quickly as possible. The end of the year brought a lot of RL complications to the FFH Staff, throwing the schedule into turmoil. We will be meeting this weekend to chart a direction for 2010 and will post the calendar as soon as we can.

Stay tuned for the latest Freakin' news, and pay attention to Group notices, they're the most effective means of communication. Come on out & party with your Freaky family, it's because of you that we're staying open!!

Yep, once again it's a month between posts, just wanted to let y'all know that I am back from the RL void more or less. I took off most of November to concentrate on some RL dragon slaying and take a well-deserved vacation (Rockin' of course). I'm starting to ease back into RL & SL, decided to return to the Freakshow tonite and spin a bunch of the stuff I picked up in my absence. Guaranteed the best music in SL!!

Yes, I'm Still Undead

Crap, I just realized that I haven't posted since the Weird one went to go dance for Elvis. I'm still undead & Freaky, but fighting the vortex of RL. Damn weather has put me behind in several projects, and so I'm scrambling to catch up, as well as keep up with current tasks.

Meanwhile back at the Funeral Home, we've been kickin' it out as Freaky as ever! A whole slew of live acts have been booked, many of whom haven't played FFH before. As you all know, I live for music, and rarely get the chance to go hear musicians anymore... good thing I own a venue! Stay tuned for even more killer live music as I'm always looking for unique sounds!

In DJ news, Sabriel Azalee has made it back from RL and is kicking off Sundays from 11-1. She spins an amazingly eclectic set, you have to hear it for yourself! Vanguard Alter has taken over the Tuesday 2-4PM, I've known him a couple years and am glad to welcome him to the Freaky Family! Inked Jewell has returned to Fridays 12-2PM, there's no better way to kick off your weekend!! And finally, TWISTMY Gears has picked up the 2-4 on Fridays, giving you a second chance to let her rock you!!

And, of course, it's October...I know it's always Halloweenie at Freakheim, but those of you who have been around a while know that Halloween is the biggest Freakin' bash of the year for us. The RAILS will play for their 3rd straight Halloween, which has to be some kinda SL record. We'll be having a DJ battle from 1-5PM with hourly contests as usual, I'll be posting the list shortly so you can start shopping. The RAILS will play at 5PM, then I'll be having a Masquerade Ball for the Shred from 6-8PM. I may even do a Symphonic set, I haven't done one of those in ages. Prizes will be Halloween sized as well, so plan to spend the whole day with us!!

Ever since he passed on, Michael Jackson has been in the news daily. I heard today that they finally decided upon funeral arrangements. A few of you have wondered why I'm such a non-fan of Mr. Jackson and I promised I'd blog about it. RL keeps me busy as hell, and this is the first chance I've had. Most of you know I can't stand Disco. Google "Disco Demolition" sometime. I was happy to be among those who ended that scourge upon the airwaves. To this day, I can't stand anything with a repetitious beat that is mixed superior to the melody.

I won't go into Mr. Jackson's personal life....that's mostly a matter of public record & great speculation, suffice it to say he was a weirdo. No, what Michael Jackson represents, to me, is the turning point where music was no longer the focus of the "music industry". You all know the motto of Freakheim: "It's All About The Music". For many years, the primary focus of the music industry was discovering & developing musical talent, finding those whose musical innovation set the world's ear on fire. As commercialization rose, the focus began to veer toward marketing and away from music as its core.

Take "Thriller" for instance. The track itself is not innovative, in fact it's just Disco, a genre that had recently met its demise. Record companies loved Disco, and today's dance pop & Hip-Hop because real live musicians aren't needed. All you have to do is get the vocal takes. Everything else is pre-recorded, studio time is shortened, and the same backing tracks can be used to fill several different albums. All without paying any musicians to play any actual instruments....but I digress.

Music videos had existed since sound was synced to film. For the most part, they were footage of the band or artist playing live. In the '60s the "concept video" began to appear...footage possibly inspired by the music, but of something other than a performance. Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" comes to mind. "Thriller" changed the music video paradigm. Here was essentially a mini-movie with expensive production showcasing some serious choreography. The cinematography was also cutting-edge. But wait!! What about the MUSIC? Oh yeah, some Disco track, nothing special.

And the album flew off the shelves....and was heard on the airwaves...and the video was repeated every 15 minutes. This was the beginning of the end, folks! The music industry realized that the music no longer had to make a statement as long as the MARKETING did! All of a sudden the labels were spending millions to make expensive videos with pretty, but not necessarily musically adept performers. The music industry became the (music) Marketing Industry. Their lust for the almighty dollar led them away from the music to the point where they began to believe their own bullshit. In what twisted alternate reality is it a good idea to insult and then sue your customers?

To sum it up, Michael Jackson...and "Thriller"...represent the point in time where the focus on music was sacrificed for the focus on marketing. Just because something sells millions of copies doesn't mean it's any good...just well-marketed. My focus will always be on the music. Most of what I play may be obscure, but it's damn good music!!

Furries, Nekos, insects, whatever, let’s bring out the Animal in you Freaks….guaranteed to be plenty of tail(s) at Freakheim for this contest!! I suppose I’ll have to put out a bowl of treats or something…….

Open House at Freak Hall

This past Sunday, we had an Open House at Freak Hall. Mainly because in over 2 years of being on SL, we've never had a party in our house! We used to always have them down on the beach (in the days before Freakheim). We used the opportunity to introduce Freakheim's newest DJ, Sabriel Azalee, and she put on a wonderfully eclectic set from 1-3PM. I followed up at 3, and ended up spinning till 6:30...that's right, 3 and a half hours of Freakiness!! I got to pull out tons of tunes I hadn't spun before, and many of our good friends and family managed to come by & tour the house & see how the Freaks live! I really wanted to show off the attic studio, which I moved from the former Surf Shack when we built the new house. By the end, we had had a pig roasting on a spit (in the attic!) and over 5 hours of the best music in SL! For me, the best sets are the ones where the audience interacts and really gets into the music. Sunday was one of those sets, and I delved into a little bit of everything from classic rock to Metal, to blues, to Symphonic Metal, JRock...you name it. Thank you all who attended, it was my pleasure rocking your Sunday!

Freakoff DJ Battle for Relay

Heyas!!! I wanted to remind everyone that this coming Saturday, 20 June, we are having a Freakoff DJ Battle from 5-8 PM SLT to benefit Relay For Life!! April Coswell, Myn Delling and myself will dig deep into our respective music libraries and try to out-Freak each other. Plenty of truly bizarre tunes have been recorded over the years, so this will definitely be a once in a lifetime event! The best news is, all proceeds will go to Relay For Life! Our team has already surpassed last year's total, but we are aiming fo a million L$ this year! We're about half way there, with a month to go, so bring your lindens, your drinks, and your sense of humor this will be the Freakiest set EVER in SL, guaranteed!!!

I've been Botted!

OK, OK, I realize that I suck at blogging regularly. I get ideas, but rarely at a convenient time. Anyways, I had to share this......details removed due to irrelevance, I'm sure you can fill in the blanks. I was spinning last night at a club, maybe 20-25 folks on the dance floor. The entire set, the conversation was dominated by a group of 3 people in the corner going on and on and on.....it was like the lunchroom in a junior high school. Wifey muted them and for her, chat was silent. I went over an hour with absolutely no comment on the music, no requests, and of course no tips. As you all know, the reason I spin is to get the good music out there. I feed of the energy of my audience, and love to comply with requests. Usually at my shows, the music will engender comments, either positive or negative, and it will direct the flow of the set. Last night I may as well have left SAM on automatic and read a book. I was tempted to toss in some Classical, maybe some Sinatra, anything to get a response.

It finally occurred to me that 90% of the avs present were unconnected to anyone at the keyboard. Evidently a lot of folks will park their avie at the club & use it as a radio. That's all well and fine, but when that large of a proportion is doing it it seems like botting. Traffic is pointless unless it enhances the entertainment experience. I had a much better time at FFH a couple nights earlier with 5-7 people in attendance that were 100% participating and focusing on the music.

I don't expect anything to change, but needed to get it off my chest. Thanks for tolerating my rant. I will continue to focus on spinning the best music out there, and as always I welcome requests. Let me know what you want to hear and I'll slide it in for ya!!

A Few Thoughts on the Impending Changes to SL

Well, as we all know, LL is gonna shake our world up once again. I've been following the forums and talking to several folks, and I promised I'd get on here and have my say. When SL was conceived, it was the ultimate libertarian utopia: anything was fair game, as long as it didn't infringe upon the rights of others. Land owners were allowed to determine what sort of activities they would allow. LL assured us that everyone on the grid was 18 or over, and we were all adults. Now they want to banish all "Adult" activity to a separate continent and restrict access to paid residents or those who have verified their age through a 3rd party service. I've been inworld over two years, and have run into very little PG content. It seems it would be easier to make a prude continent and restrict those who don't know how to TP away from things that frighten them to Disneytopia. Really, how may people have you run into inworld who complain about the grown-up nature of the grid? Just like TV, those who dislike the content are free to search out only PG sims or simply not come into SL. I came up with two major theories behind the changes being forced upon us, the paying customers:

1. From the beginning, SL has tried to attract RL businesses to use SL as a conferencing platform. Just like any other venture, corporate sponsorship is welcome, as it helps defray the costs. Ever look at a race car? I have been to several business meetings in SL, and it's great for collaborative modeling. I have even used SL to inexpensively render 3-D drawings for RL construction projects. OK, Kaedy did that, but you get the point. SL does have RL uses. There are some glaring flaws with this plan, however. First of all, most business computers are incapable of even running SL. Look around you at work. Unless you're in the graphics business, not one of those machines even has a discrete graphics card. Second, there's the bandwidth issue. SL takes a huge amount of bandwidth to operate efficiently. Your business would have to be directly connected to the backbone for this to work. And there would be major upgrades needed in your IT closet to handle it all. In these lean economic times, spending millions to facilitate the occasional meeting is not going to fly past the CFO. It's way cheaper to fly folks in. Third, you have the perception of SL as a "game". I can imagine the grumblings of my coworkers that some of us were "gaming" on company time. The meetings I attend in SL I do from home on my own computer and my own bandwidth.

In my business meetings in SL, there were many people new to SL and the concept of virtual worlds. Many of these people have barely mastered email. Yes, they were shocked at some of the things they saw while randomly bopping around SL. No different than if they wandered around any major European city. These businesspeople are not going to become paid, frequent users of SL. They pop in every month or two for a 2-hour meeting. They do very little shopping, clubbing, etc. Bending over backward to cater to these occasional SLers is a bad idea. Maybe a separate "square business only" continent? Look, they are still adults, and responsible to use Search and read the freakin' descriptions before they go TPing somewhere. Just what do they think "escort" means? Something different than in RL? And where do they get off telling those of us who spend $1000USD a month what we can and cannot do? I remember "Your World, Your Imagination"..........Hey, LL, the diehard addicts are your bottom line, not the stuffed suits.

2. LL is intentionally trying to drive off residents. As SL grows, the need for more infrastructure grows as well. In order to keep costs in check and assure a healthy profit margin, LL, from time to time, does something so asinine it drives folks away for good. The "OpenSpace" debacle comes to mind. There were other solutions than what LL decided upon. They chose the one that resulted in the greatest loss of residents. How many people do you know that either left SL for good, or rarely come in now that they can't afford a place to live? Pay no attention to the numbers on the login splash screen. At least 30,000 are bots. Next time SL is down for any significant period of time, look at the number when you log in. 10 seconds after logins are reactivated, there are 30,000 concurrent users. That's either Lindens or bots.

The actual number of users does continue to grow, so to avoid having to buy even more servers, bandwidth, staff, etc. LL has hatched another plan to run folks off. There are numerous reasons why folks do not want to give their CC info, and even more to not trust a 3rd party verification service. Neither one will keep a determined underage person from getting inworld. Use a parent's info. Hell, use a grandparent's. Not like they'll have any clue. Tell them "Linden Labs" is a school expense. So that isn't it.....must be that LL needs to keep resident numbers down to maximize profits.....hmmm.....something to think about anyway.

LL keeps repeating that "Adult" activities account for only 3% of the grid. My ass. The grid is empty as ever, 24 hours a day, except for Mature and Adult activities. They can't even decide what is Mature and what is Adult. Sure, there is a list, but as usual it's subject to change on a whim. I have a better idea. Post a warning on the splash screen: This Is An Adult Virtual Experience. Under 18 Prohibited. If You're Uptight, Prudish, Intolerant, or Incapable of Logging Out, DO NOT ENTER!!!

OK, if you've read this far, I'll sum it up very simply: Fuck Censorship.

Absolutely Kickass Party!!

Wow! We had the place packed all day! Kaedy outdid herself once again with the decorating, and our team of DJs provided an unequaled set during the Battle! When I say that Freakheim has the best DJs in SL, it's not an exaggeration! Troy had some technical issues that kept him from spinning, but Lainey popped in & saved the day. Fresh off a vacation, she was ready to spin and tossed out a killer set for the first hour. The next 4 hours were covered by the DJ Battle, and 6 of the finest spinners in SL rocked the place like never before! We had Marvel Kit, Ozark Hax, meka Chaffe, Guenevere DeCuir, Sly Nirpaw and Inked Jewell, each one with a unique musical perspective and together they're unstoppable! The night finished off with my return to the Shred, and I had a hell of a set to follow. I ended up spinning for nearly 3 hours, and was all over the musical spectrum.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Bash, whether you stayed all day or just popped in...it is you, the Freaks, who make Freakheim the rockinest club in SL!! Make sure you spread the word to everyone you know who loves great music and get 'em in to Freakheim!!

Freakheim Anniversary Coming Up!

Heyas!! Yep, I know, I've been kinda bad about posting lately. And kinda absent from SL too, for that matter. Damn RL has got me in a deathgrip lately. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and I'm pretty sure it's not a train....though I am quite deaf. The main reason for this post is that I thought I'd remind y'all that Freakheim's first anniversary is quickly approaching. A year is forever in SL time, so much has happened since FFH opened its doors. On Saturday 25 April we'll be having one hell of a party to celebrate a year of Freaky existence. Stay tuned for details, but I guarantee you'll want to be there.

Since I have the podium, mic, keyboard, floor, whatever, I'm going to take the time right now to thank my kickass Freaky Staff. Each and every one of you, most of whom have been with me from the very start. I played the first FFH set ever on 26 April 2008 and many of you were there. We would not have lasted this long without your dedication to the cause of great music. After playing various venues in SL I had the idea to open a place that focused on the music, where everyone would feel at home, let their hair down, and just Freakin' party!! Because of you, we did it!!!

I also want to thank the members of Band of Freaks for coming out, set after set, to see just what kind of silliness we'd get into that night. We have had some great times together, and there are a bunch of us! Just about everywhere you go in SL anymore, there will be a Freak there. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, 25 April 2009 and let's see just how many Freaks we can pack into the Funeral Home!!

L$ 75,000!!!!

Yesterday was the kickoff for Relay for Life 2009. Freakheim is part of the Spinners for Life relay team, and we hosted an all-day bash at the Funeral Home. By the time I logged off last night, we had raised L$75,000 from the kiosk in the club alone. When I popped in this morning, I noticed that the team total was over L$96,000, thanks to the generous support from the patrons of Lounge of Dreams and other locations. I'd like to offer my sincere thanks to all of you for supporting Relay, and for the tremendous kickoff we had!!

This year, the Spinners for Life HQ building is on the Freakheim sim, just before you get to Frankenlust Holiday Shoppe. Pop in and check the message board for upcoming Spinners events. There is also an option to subscribe to event notices without having to join the group. Relay lasts a little over 4 months, and we will continue to have fund-raising events throughout that time. If you happen to find yourself with some spare L$ in you pocket, please consider donating it through any of the convenient kiosks gridwide. Every little bit does help, even L$1.

In 2008, Spinners raised L$418,000 and we plan to exceed that this year. This cause is near & dear to me personally, and I know it is to many of you, too. Thank you!!!

Yep....we hit that magic number last weekend!! Our little Band of Freaks is growing steadily, as more folks find out about the Freakiest little underground club inworld. Attendance has been great lately, and this month we're participating in the Twisted Hunt, so more folks are gonna be wandering in & out and hopefully staying for the party!! We have a few new Staff members, so make sure you come on down & give them a Freaky welcome!! Coming up this Saturday is more LIVE Blues from Kelvinblue Oh. If you haven't heard this fantastic artist, make sure you come & give him a listen!! We've moved the set back to 5PM SLT so it's more convenient, and I'll be spinning afterward. I'll try to post again soon, RL has me all wrapped up these days and when I do have free time, I'm inworld rockin your asses!!! Be Freaky!!!

In Need of Hosties

As the weekend draws to a close, I figured I'd pop in & blather a bit. Freakheim's going strong, and the Band of Freaks has been hovering around 300 for a while recently. I know traffic's been off lately, but it's been down everywhere I go inworld. Pay no attention to the concurrent users number on the splash screen, as near as I can estimate, that figure represents about 30,000 bots.

You all know that Freakheim has the best music in SL, and very low lag. I'm always looking for DJs that have something to say musically, so if you know someone, pass their name to me. Right now, we are in need of hosts for several slots. If you would like to host for one of our kickass DJs, or know someone who would, send them over to talk to me or Sly.

There are some plans in the works to increase club traffic, including participation in a grid-wide hunt, sponsored events, and more. At Freakheim it's all about the music, and we are on a mission to make sure every music lover in SL has heard of us. I don't have much time to spend inworld these days, but when I am in, I do what I can to promote the club and our kickass Staff.

It looks like we all survived Valium Day, and now we enter the frantic run-up to Green Beer Day!! I like any holiday that focuses on heavy drinking & rowdiness!! Must be the Irish in me.....

The Freakin' Weekend

Let's see...last time I was here I ran down the weekday sets, so let's have a look at the weekend lineup!!

Friday kicks off at 2PM with Krissy Mesmer and her hard-hitting set, Krissy is new to Fridays, come on down & check her out!! From 4-6 is the fabulous DJ Ishi with her unique mix of hard rock, JRock, and whatever else happens to cross her mind!! The Friday Freakshow from 6-8 is guaranteed to be the wackiest set of the night....yeah, I sometimes plan a set list but tend to follow the mood of the crowd, it's not unusual to hear everything from Bluegrass to Punk in the same set. Come on in & see if you can stump the freaky DJ!! Closing down Friday from 8-10 is Cyden Nightfire. Cyden has a huge music library and the sets are always kickass!!

Saturday's regular sets kick off at 11AM with Troy Kaminski, who has a love of classic Rock and plays some serious guitar tunes!! There is often a contest going on, and we've had some seriously wacky ones lately! From 1-3PM is the first part of the Dutch Assault, Marvel Kit. It took me a while to get Marv in here, but I'm glad I did! His sets definitely rock hard!! Marv has had RL commitments recently, and his slot has been filled by Guenevere DeCuir, fellow QR fanatic and lover of cheezy tuneage (and prone to on-air giggling fits). She's scheduled again this coming weekend, make sure to give her a listen!! 3-5PM Brings Part 2 of the Dutch Assault, the inimitable Ozark Hax. Oz is famous for finding the most bizarre tunes in the galaxy and mixing them into a hard-hitting set, you may end up laughing as much as dancing!! Rounding out Saturday is the Saturday Shred, THE show to see on Saturday night! (OK, a little self-promotion there)...but seriously, you know I'll play whatever, whenever, and I always have at least L$500 on the board.....

Sunday the rock keeps rolling with the TriLey show from 1-3PM The TriLey show is a dual-DJ set by the RL team of Trident & Bailey Runningbear. The music is always superb, the contests verge on naughty, and everyone has a blast!! From 3-5PM we have Tristan Micheline, and she can really spin a killer set!! She's definitely sick & twisted and a great soundtrack to Sunday!!
Finishing off the weekend, we have our very own Funeral Director, Sly Nirpaw from 5-7PM. Sly has a taste for the bizarre as well, and is a big fan of classic punk, thrash & garage Metal. One thing for sure, his sets are LOUD!!!

Freaky Goings On

Freakheim continues to rock the hell outta SL!! We've added several new staff members, shuffled some sets around, and generally raised the level of Freakiness to new heights!

Algenight Cline kicks off the week Mondays at Noon SLT with an eclectic mix of punk, classic Britpop and an on-air personality that must be heard to be appreciated!! This guy is definitely a Freak!!! His host is my SL daughter, Shay Hax, another recent addition to the FFH Staff.

Following Algenight from 2-4PM is another British standout, Dany Moonbeam. Dany has returned to the Freaky airwaves from an extended holiday and blasts into your afternoon with a hard-hitting serious Metal set. His host is the insane 5ynester Blackburn, also back from an extended break.

The 4-6PM slot is still being authoritatively rocked by meka Chaffe and hosted by Lacey Perterson. Serious mayhem has ensued during meka's sets, drop in & see what kind of trouble you can get into!! Last but not least, Aplonis Ember guides you into the night with the most eclectic mix in SL....you have no idea what you've been missing, the music's so good it's hard to tear myself away!! He's hosted by his RL partner Sylea, and these two have a chemistry to be admired!!

Tuesday brings another new addition to FFH, Krissy Mesmer. Last week tech issues kept her off the air, but she's poised & ready to rock your Tuesday from 2-4PM leading into Ishi's killer 4-6 set featuring the best of Hard Rock, JRock and Symphonic Metal.

Wednesday kicks off with Cyden Nightfire from 1-3PM, hosted by EYEkon Burner, another new Staffer. Cyden has a huge music library and wide tastes, from classic rock to Metal, the perfect way to start your SL afternoon!! TWISTMY Gears takes over from 3-5PM for a seriously rockin set. Rounding out the Wednesday lineup, Myn's Mid-Week Mania has returned every other week, her sets also span the entire musical spectrum; you really should come down & listen, but be prepared to be blown away!!! 5ynester Blackburn will provide the hosting duties & provide eye candy for the ladies! On the weeks Myn is off, Torrent Straaf will kick your Humpingday doldrums away with a kickass Rock/Metal/JRock set hosted by his lovely Dragon Yasayuki Kattun!!

Thursday starts off at Noon with another dose of Algenight Cline, hosted by IrisBlossom Nitely. From 2-4 Samantha Bainbridge has returned to Freakheim with even more attitude than before!! She's loud, obnoxious & proud!! Rhyanna Saphir will be your Freaky Host, and serious Freakiness often occurs, both musically & otherwise!! Rosie Rocks! is still holding down the 4-6 slot, now with 5ynester Blackburn as host. When Rosie needs to blow off steam, watch out!! Her "Angry" sets shake the foundation!! Closing out Thursday is Lainey Thorne with her eclectic mix of German Industrial, Hard Rock, and a smidge of Techno just for Freaky Flavor! Lainey's hosted by Rosie Wylie and she'll make sure you feel welcome!!

Is cluelessness terminal? I hope so.......

By now, most of you have heard about the folks who had the chutzpah to tell me what I can & can't do in my own group chat. There's a detailed blow-by-blow over on Kaedy's blog (link on the right) so I needn't go into detail here. The fact the people are likely fertile makes me fear for the future of humanity. If only cluelessness were terminal. As Ron White is famous for saying, "You can't fix stupid" Unfortunately, the profoundly stupid happen to be some of the most fertile. This is likely some Darwinian survival mechanism, but it has been thwarted by the nanny state and the ever-present product warnings. Truthfully, there are some people who should use the hair dryer in the shower.

Another by-product of nanny-style government is the erosion of the concept of private property. We see it every day in ridiculous zoning ordinances, and the fact that you often need to jump through several flaming hoops of bureaucracy to get anything done at City Hall. I believe in the concept of the common good, and agree that zoning is a necessary evil. Sometimes, however, it goes way too far. But we the people have quietly accepted the concept of other people deciding what we can do with our property and have ceased fighting back. The exception is those of us who have bothered to read the US Constitution. I like fighting City Hall.

What all the above has to do with Freakheim & the band of Freaks is this: The club, and the group, belong to Kaedy & I. We make the rules. Our outlook is summed up quite nicely in the Group Charter. I realize that some people dislike aimless chatter or spam in the group window. LL has thoughtfully provided a mechanism to eliminate unwanted messages: close the window. Kind of like changing the channel if you don't like what's on TV. What some see as spam, others see as connecting with Group members. It's my way of saying hey & seeing what everyone's up to. The overwhelming consensus has been supportive of this concept, so Band of Freaks Group chat spam is here to stay. We love ya, and being Freaky is what we're all about. If you're doing something naughty, we want to hear about it.

OK, OK, I know it was over a week ago. If it isn't one thing it's another, and lately my RL job has been keeping me busy as hell. I've been spending what time I do have inworld, and have neglected nearly everything else. Anyways, I figured I'd better post the contest results before I completely space it.

Wow! Talk about time flying.....seems like Halloween was only yesterday! Of course, I could have been trapped in some sort of a timewarp......
Anyways, it's time for the Freakin' Xmas Party!! Those of you who attended the last one know that it's THE party to attend! Once again, we're kicking it off with a performance by The RAILS, live from Toronto at 11AM SLT. Then from 12-5PM we're gonna steal a page from our Halloween party and do another DJ battle! We'll have the best Rock DJs in SL swapping the stream to bring you the Freakiest Xmas set ever! Following the DJ battle I'm going to spin a special Metallic Xmas edition of the Saturday Shred from 5-8PM. I know I have Freaky Xmas tunes nobody else does, and I have to uphold my reputation as the Freakiest DJ in SL! We're also going to try something new: Hourly contests. That's right, we're going to have a new contest every hour, so make sure your inventory is organized!! Prizes will start at L$1000 and grow from there, so bring everyone you can think of!

In other Freaky news, we have 2 DJs making their Freakheim debut on Monday, Meka Chaffe will bring you her view of the Rock world 4-6PM, and Aplonis Ember will spin his eclectic set 6-8PM. Looks like Mondays will suck a whole lot less from now on, in fact Monday night's gonna be rockin!! Cyden picked up Wednesday 1-3PM, so now your Freaky Humpingday can last even longer. And Sly Nirpaw is going to spin on the Sundays Guen is out so your partying will no longer have a bi-weekly interruption.

RL is slowly losing its grip on me, and I may actually be able to be inworld more than once in a while. I ended up missing the Shred yesterday due to a RL obligation, but Sly filled in and kicked ass!! Hopefully I won't miss any sets this week......I live to rock your 2L!!!!

Heyas!!! Yeah, I know, been a while since I posted. Damn RL has me tied in knots, but I've been doing my best to keep the best music in SL streaming from Freakheim!! There's a few news items that I have to share though, so I figured an quick update post would be in order. First of all, the sim has changed owners (Kaedy & I officially bought it) and we changed the name of the sim to Freakheim. Easy to remember, right?

And now for the news the title alludes to: Yes, the Bears are back at Freakheim!! Trident & Bailey Runningbear bring a set of killer tunes & nonstop naughty fun to your Sunday from 1-3Pm SLT. Trident was one of the original Freakheim DJs and I'm glad to have him back. And to make it even better, Bailey has taken up DJing too. They swap off DJ/Host roles every half hour or so, and this past Sunday's set was kickass!! Make sure you put this show on your SL calendar, it's guaranteed good tunes & naughty fun!!

Sly Nirpaw has been Djing more & more lately, filling in when RL takes folks away. I still have yet to nail him to a solid timeslot, but if ya ever get a notice he's spinning, get your Freaky asses in here! He covered the Shred this past Saturday, and I couldn't tear myself away.

Cyden Nightfire has joined the Friday night fun, following up the Freakshow from 8-10PM with a set of seriously awesome tuneage. He has my love for classic rock, and this past Friday saw some killer 70s tunes mixed in. I stayed for the whole set, it was that great!! Way past coffin time, but you know how I am about music!

The 2nd Annual Freakin' Xmas Party is scheduled for 20 December, kicking off with TheRAILS live from Toronto at 11AM, Oz's Freaky DJ Battle from 12-5PM with hourly contests, and finishing off with a special Holiday edition of the Shred from 5-7. Fill your coolers, make some snacks, and prepare to spend the day at Freakheim!!

I'll try to get another post in soon, just wanted to let you all know that I am undead & well and have killer tunes on the way!!

Lotsa Freaky Goodness going on!

OK, I admit, it's been 2 weeks. RL has had me slammed to the wall, and what free time I do have I've spent inworld rocking your asses off!! There's a bunch of good news, tho! Freakheim has added 3 new DJs since I last blogged: Troy Kaminski is on Saturday 11AM-1PM SLT, Tristan Micheline is on Sunday 5-7PM SLT, And TWISTMY Gears has just been added to Wednesday 3-5PM SLT! Make sure you mark your calendars to come out and give these folks a listen! I've known Troy for over a year, and though he's new to DJing, he definitely knows his music inside & out! His sets are a perfect way to start off your Freakin' Saturday! Tristan is a DJ I've had the pleasure of knowing since shortly after I got inworld. One of the most versatile in SL, she brings her hard-rockin' side to Freakheim every Sunday to make sure your weekend goes out with a bang! I met Twist while doing my Freakshow at another venue, and she's another seriously rockin' gal who will provide a killer soundtrack to your Humpingday.

DJ Ishi has added Tuesday 4-6, and has brough on Yasayuki Kattun as her host for both of her sets. Yasa has a way with words, and her event notices are the best I've ever seen! Make sure you catch these two in action, it's always a kickass time! We also have some new hosts in addition to Yasa: Lacey Peterson is hosting for Tristan on Sundays, Kear Kuhn is hosting her RL hubby JSD on Tuesday 6-8, Lissa Freenote hosts Troy Kaminski on Saturdays, and Shay Hax has joined the staff as a fill-in host until she gets a permanent slot. LadyStar is on her way back to the USA, so Kear and Kayleyna will be covering her slots until she's back in action.

Traffic all over SL has been down these past couple of weeks, so it's very important that all you Freaks make an effort to drop by the sets and show some Linden Lovin' to our hardworking, hard-rockin' staff!! Due to RL commitments, my personal DJ schedule will be cut back for the next 3 weeks or so. I'll still be in & around, but doing way fewer sets. Fear not, I'll be back and Freakier than ever as soon as I get things taken care of.

Freakheim Halloween Bash 2008

I'm at a loss for words. Seriously. This past Friday & Saturday absolutely kicked ass!! Attendance was through the roof, far exceeding my expectations. And the music....what can I say....the music was the Freakiest, Rockinest music in all of the grid. Speaking of the grid, I have to mention that the Gridwide Pumpkin Hunt definitely brought in some new patrons. We added more folks to BoF this past weekend than we have any other weekend! I still haven't gone through the pix, but there are so many I may have to post them on a Flickr page. The contests were well participated in, and yes, I did my usual doubling when we got the pages filled. All in all, we handed out over L$ 40,000 in prizes over the weekend. And at times, we had the biggest crowd of any Rock club on the grid. Obviously, prizes will return to normal levels this week, but now everyone knows how seriously Freaks take their celebrations!! Getting ready for Halloween

Once again, RL has gotten away from me and I've fallen behind. Freakheim has definitely been rockin' along, with killer sets every night of the week! Of all the clubs in SL, we definitely feature the widest variety of Rock, and each DJ brings their own unique interpretation. Recently, Sly has been spinning as a fill-in, and every time he does it's memorable!

If you haven't been by the club recently, we have it all decked out for Halloween, with graveyards inside & out, spooky trees & a giant cauldron of candy!! Halloween festivities this year will be held both on Friday night 10/31 and Saturday evening 11/1, so make sure you pop in!! Prizes on Halloween will be a lot larger than normal, so stay tuned to the notices for contest themes.

I'll try to get some pix posted next time, just wanted you to know I was still undead & kickin' Another great reason to pop by Freakheim on Halloween is the Grid Wide Pumpkin Hunt. Details are available in the club and in the mall area. If you like free stuffs and treasure hunting, you definitely have to get in on this!!

More Freakiness this past weekend

Oz decided on a real flashback this past Saturday......clear back to the Stone Age!! We had dinosaurs, cavemen, freaky Flintstones tunes, you name it!! Oz definitely knows how to put the Freak in Freakheim!!

For the Shred, I decided on "Under the Covers" as a theme....2 hours of killer cover tunes, and the best in sleepwear. Here's Kaedy showing off her smexxxy undies as I play along on the floor!

And, of course, plenty more good times & killer tunes coming up this week! Inked Jewell returns Monday night 6-8, JSD Etzel Tuesday 6-8, Myn's Mid-Week Mania Wednesday 5-7, And our new Triple Threat Thursday!! Dany Moonbeam will rock you 1:30-3:30, Rosie Rocks! at 4, and Lainey at 6!! Talk about rockin' overdose!!! And once you finally get some rest it will be time to kick off the weekend with DJ Ishi on Friday at 4 followed by the Friday Freakshow at 6. On Saturday, Oz is on 3-5 and the Saturday Shred 5-7...stay tuned for details...you know the music will kick ass & the prizes will be big!!!

Above is a pic from April's Monday Decapitation set, we had an awesome turnout for a Monday, and decided to have a "Fuck Monday" contest.....almost everyone got in on that and the tunes were incredibly kickass!!

Here's a pic from Oz's Cowboy set last week....we had pink ponies, purple ponies, and even a Centaur as well as cowboys & Indians. We also found out that Kaedy could shoot her cow gun and open the barn doors!

Following that set was my "Strange" set.....and this guy definitely took that to heart! Check out the Mohawk & fangs on Mr. Happy!

Ishi changed form several times last Friday, eventually settling on the purple & black kitty, all while rocking the place apart!

I decided on a "Hell Yeah, it's Friday!" theme for the Freakshow, and everyone seemed to have a rockin' time! We even had good participation in the contest!
As you can see, Freakheim seriously rocked all week long!!

Another Humpingday Post

Well, another insane week in the life of a Freak. Friday seriously kicked ass, starting off with DJ Ishi and then the Freakshow at Freakheim! Saturday rocked out, with Oz and his Cowboys event folowed by the Saturday Shred. Ended up going overtime on the Shred, got caught up in some Celtic rock reqests and one song led to another........

On Sunday, Gorgeous Guenevere rocked for 2 1/2 hours, it was a seriously kickass set!! On Monday, Inked Jewell came in and blew the place apart from 6-8, and Tuesday saw the return of JSD Etzel for the most eclectic set of the week. That brings us up to tonight, and Myn's rockin' the 80s as we speak.

Coming up Thursday will be Rosie & Lainey, then Ishi & my Freakshow on Friday. One of these days I'll get some pix up, in fact I'm doing this from my streaming comp and not the one with the pix on it.

Whatever ya do, make sure you catch some sets at Freakheim, it's definitely the home of the best music in SL!!

Time is fun when you're having flies

Damn.....even later than last week. If this keeps up, I'm going to have to uninstall RL. Just takes up too much of my time. A few changes in the club, more kickass music headed your way!! Last week cruised on from Wednesday into the weekend, Rosie & Lainey rocked Thursday and Ishi popped in for Friday. Oz returned for a Slaves & Masters event and I followed up with a "Strange" event. Lotsa folks showed up, prizes were doubled, and the music was the best in SL.

So far this week, we've heard the return of Monday Decapitation with April Coswell, killer turnout for a Monday!! It was a RL bad day for me, and I seriously needed some good music. By the time the set was half over, I was laughing out loud at April's Freaky tunes and jamming along with the rest. Due to RL, the Monday Decapitation won't return until 10/27, but April promises to pop in the week of the 20th if at all possible.

Following April on Monday was guest DJ Dom Manatiso filling in for Inked Jewell and any life left in Monday was blown away. Dom delivered an intense set of Metal, Hardcore & Screamo that lit the sim next door on fire! Dom's set also saw the debut of Crystle Penucca as host. She's definitely a Freak and did a fine job her first night hosting.

Tuesday saw the return to the airwaves of JSD Etzel. He & I played the same club over a year ago, and we were constantly challenging each other with off-the-wall requests. RL has kept him off the air for several months, but he's back and spinning at Freakheim. There's really no way to describe his set except "Absolutely anything, anytime". Bluegrass, acoustic, classic rock, Metal, blues....you name it it's in there.....and sounding great!!

Myn's Mid-Week Mania returned on Wednesday, and kicked off Halloween with a bang! Why wait? The Freakiest club in SL, just down the block from the coolest Halloween Shop in SL was the perfect place to kick off Halloween early! Joining Myn was our newest host, Staroftesun Criss, and they kept the place jumping!

Tonight we have Rosie Rocks! at 4 and Lainey Thorne at 6. So grab some food, drinks, whatever, and get yourself down to Freakheim for the rockinest 4 hours inworld every Thursday! OK, now the big news....the Friday Freakshow has moved to Freakhiem!!! Ishi's on 4-6 and then the Freakshow roars in from 6-8 with my usual eclectic mix of whatever the hell I feel like playing added to your Rockin' requests!!! I'm also slotted at Burning Life from 8-10, if you wanna keep rockin', IM me & I'll send a taxi!

Saturday will feature Oz at 3 and the Saturday Shred with me from 5-7. We get to extend the weekend this week, as Gorgeous Guen is back on Sunday 3-5PM.

I don't know when I'll get back to posting pix, but I do have them and I'll eventually get them up here. Till then, stay Freaky & keep on Rockin'!!!!

Happy Humpingday

Yep, I know, I'm waaay late this week. RL has been a real sonofabitch lately, and it's sucking up what little spare time I have. Last week at Freakheim rocked out nonetheless, starting with Fury Aeon on Tuesday, & Rosie & Lainey on Thursday.

Saturday started off with a bang, as we had a live set from Kelvinblue Oh, Texas bluesman extraordinaire and survivor of Hurricane Ike. Yep, ol' Kev decided to ride it out & said the house was definitely a-rockin' but not from his guitar. He managed to have power & internet restored in time for Saturday's set, and knocked out an hour of killer electric Blues.

Oz was stuck in RL Saturday evening, but we still got our Dutch Treat, as Marvel Kit filled in for him. Marv's set kicked ass, and everyone there had fun. I hope to get Marv in as a regular set sometime soon. Oz did manage to make it to Freakheim for the end of Marv's set & he hung around for my "Strange" set. I played a lot of strange tunes, and there were plenty of strange avies at the club. I came as the Road Runner.....yep, the cartoon character.

The week finished off with another great set from Gorgeous Guenevere. She had a movie theme and played a lot of soundtrack tunes & general killer trax. Not a lot of bodies there, and if you missed it, shame on you!! Guen plays every other Sunday, so mark your calendars for her next set, 5 October.

This week sees the return of Myn's Mid-week Mania on Wednesday, followed by Rosie & Lainey on Thursday, and Oz & I on Saturday. Oh, before I forget, the shopping area has been completely redone into a Gothic village, and Kaedy opened up a Halloween shop at the far end of the parcel. Make sure you check it out, there's waycool stuffs in there unavailable anywhere else inworld! Since I'm running 2 days late, I decided to skip the pix this week, but I'll try to get some in my next posting. See ya at Freakheim!!

The Freak Week in Review

Once again, Freakheim rocked the dead! This week saw Fury Aeon on Tuesday for another extended set, he ran late enough that I was able to catch some of it after I got home, you need to make sure to stop by Tuesdays 4-6 and rock out with him!

Myn's Mid-Week Mania returned on Wednesday, and those who came had a rockin' good time!! She definitely has a way with tunes, make sure you check the calendar for her sets and get over Humpday rockin' in style!

On Thursday, Rosie and Lainey kept the walls shakin' for 4 solid hours of tunes & good times! These ladies definitely know how to get an early start on the weekend, there's no better music inworld than right here at Freakheim!

Saturday's festivities kicked off with a live set by The RAILS from Toronto, Canada. They're friends of mine, and always put on a fun, rockin' show with their irreverent brand of "Rock-n-Raoul"! If you haven't heard them, make it a point to do so soon! This set was extra-special, as Tallulah Tripsa was visiting and sat in on drums for the set. Amazing what a Pushy Cat can do!

Kaedy once again went wild with the docorations, and the whole club was transformed into a surreal, spooky forest. This was perfect for Oz's theme, which was "Creatures of the Night". All manner of ghouls, vamps, werewolves & more turned out to dance thru the fog to some seriously killer tunes! We had enough participants to get the prize up to L$1000, and the Random Money Giver lined a few pockets as well!

Kaedy asked me to do a KISS set, and since it segued perfectly from Oz's it seemed like a natural! We had 2 hours of KISS spanning their entire career, and lots of kickass costumes as well! As you can tell by the pix, the decorations were seriously kickass, if you haven't been to one of our themed nights you're really missing out!

This coming week we'll have Fury Aeon on Tuesday 4-6, Rosie Rocks! Thursday 4-6, and Lainey Thorne Thursday 6-8. RL has kept Ishi from Fridays recently, but keep an eye out for a notice, she may be able to pop in and JRock for ya! Kelvinblue Oh is scheduled to bring his live Texas Blues to Freakheim on Saturday at 11AM, but since he is in the Houston area his availability is in question. He is all right, but without power at this time. I will update you as I know more, but please keep him in your thoughts. Oz is off this Saturday for RL, but I'll be there with the Shred as usual. No idea what the theme will be, but I can guarantee the music will rock you to your core! And last but not least, Gorgeous Guenevere will return on Sunday 3-5PM!

Rockin the Freak out!!!

This past week started off with the debut of Fury Aeon on Tuesday, he was scheduled 4-6, but ended up doing some serious overtime. It was a hell of a debut & he rocked the place wide open. Make sure you drop in this Tuesday for his set!

On Thursday, Rosie rocked out from 4-6, and I actually got back in time to catch the end of her set. It was definitely the rockinest place inworld!! Rosie has proven herself a serious Rock DJ, come on down on Thursday and see what all the buzz is about!! At 6 PM, Lainey Thorne took over for her debut set at Freakheim, and spun one seriously kickass mix!! The tunes were so good I found it hard to leave, but eventually crawled into the coffin for some much needed rest.

On Friday, Murphy (of Murphy's Law) showed up in force. Ishi started out by having SL issues, and after several relogs got that under control, only to have ISP issues before her set even started. She's on the sched for this Friday, hopefully everything goes as planned. Sly jumped in & spun for a while, so there was rockin' at Freakheim on Friday!!

On Saturday, silliness took over with Oz's Trailer Trash set. Some seriously weird (but excellent) tuneage was played, and the costumes were outrageous! Kaedy once agin did some killer decorating, and we had trailers, kiddie pools, beer, KFC, you name it!!

For the Shred, I had decided to do Part 6 of my Symphonic Metal series, and figured a Formal event would set the tone nicely. After some hurried clothes changing, with fangs crossed due to the asset server issues, we proceeded to rock the dead highbrow style!! There's so much more of this music I want to share, so keep a lookout for Part 7!!

On Sunday, Guen decided to do an underwear event for her bi-weekly set and it proved to be very popular!! The asset server issues had abated by then, and all our friends showed up in their skivvies for some awesome tunes!! I even took a study break and dropped in for the set, hard to resist a room full of folks in their undies!!

This week looks to be another rock fan's dream, starting out with Monday Decapitation from April Coswell, Fury Aeon on Tuesday, Myn's Mid-Week Mania on Wednesday, Rosie & Lainey on Thursday, and hopefully Ishi on Friday.

Saturday promises to be absolutely insane, starting off with live music from the RAILS at 2, followed by Oz from 3-5 with his "Creatures of the Night" event, and topped off by the Saturday Shred from 5-7. This week's Shred will be a KISS event..yes, the band, 2 hours of KISS from thoughout their career, and a contest for the best KISS outfit!! Time to start shopping!!

Lost in Space!!!

Well, another kickass week at Freakheim, definitely loud enough to rock the dead! We kicked off the week with Monday Decapitation, April Coswell's set that guarantees to blow the head clean off the Monday Blues....and it did!! After a typical Monday in RL, it's always a treat to have April erase the painful memories with 2 hours of awesome tuneage!! The next Monday Decapitation is scheduled for Sept. 8, 4-6PM SLT......come out & hear what you've been missing!

Tuesday's still a blank date on the calendar, if you know someone who wants to do a 4-6 set on Tuesdays, have them contact me or Sly & we'll set them up!

Wednesday saw the return of Myn's Mid-Week Mania, and boy did it rock! I've known Myn almost since I've been in SL, and she always delivers an awesome set, usually around a theme...check the calendar for details!

Rosie Rocks! returned for Thursday 4-6, and did she ever! Rafter-shaking tunes, bawdy conversations, general silliness and more made the 2 hours fly by! Ishi had to bow out of her Thursday set due to RL, but this week will see the debut of Lainey Thorne at Freakheim for the 6-8PM set. Lainey plays a broad mix of rock with a little German Industrial thrown in for good measure. Come on down this Thursday and give her a warm Freakheim welcome!

Friday saw the return of Ishi, and it was one of her best sets ever! For once her computer played nice and the set rocked from start to finish...and of course her voice was as captivating as ever. Her RL is almost as hectic as mine, but she plans to continue her Friday 4-6, so make sure you drop in for a unique mix of hard rock, Metal, JRock & more!!

On Saturday, SL's skeletal bassist, Dolmere Talamasca dropped in for an hour of his Basstastic Perversions. We had the club decorated with a Space theme for the DJ sets, and Dolmere fit right in....really, I do think he's from space...and man can that dude wail on the bass! He had a color-change script that responded to colors shouted out by the audience, including Rainbow!!

After Dolmere's set, Oz got on the stream for his Alien Invasion set and played 2 hours of alien and space themed tunes. The costumes were as outrageous as usual, and everyone had a blast!

Since the place was all decked out....including a flyable spaceship that you could walk around in...I continued the Space theme for the Shred with a Sci-Fi contest and 2 more hours of Space-themed music including some serious rarities. The crowd was small, but those in attendance had a great time. I was in a Chewbacca avie for my set....nope, no pix, you had to be there to see it!

This week is shaping up to rock out like always, starting with Myn on Wednesday, Rosie & Lainey on Thursday and Ishi on Friday. This Saturday, the Shred will feature Part 6 of my iconic Symphonic Metal set in celebration of Lucy's Rezday. If you haven't heard one of these sets, do not miss it!! I play tunes that blend the melodies & structure of Symphonic music with Metal instrumentation; from bands like Queensryche, Therion, Nightwish, Evanescence & more!!

Another fun week

Well, despite LL's best attempts to fuck things up, we had another fun week at Freakheim!
Myn was unable to get in on Wednesday, so her 80s set has been rescheduled to this Wednesday, 8/27. Thursday brought the Killer tunes of Rosie Rocks! and the return of my Li'l Sis, LadyStar to hosting at Freakheim. Following Rosie, the fabulous Ishi rocked out a solid set and we got quite a dose of that awesome voice! Ishi returned on Friday to keep things rockin and kicked off the weekend in style!

On Saturday, Oz decided to celebrate the end of summer with a Summer Camp theme...complete with tents, campfires, s'mores and more! I decided it wouldn't be camping without wildlife, and showed up as a red fox.

Of course, it wouldn't be a campout without spooky stories, so the Shred featured movie monsters & villains. As you see, Freddy & Jason came with murder on their minds!

Of course, more fun is in store this week, as we kick off with Monday Decapitation, so make sure you stop by Freakheim & catch the best music in SL!

The Week That ROCKED!!!

I know I posted about April's Monday set last post, but here's another pic from when things went seriously psychedelic:

On Wednesday, Myn's Mid-Week Mania had a "Myn's Diner" theme, and she played music from the 40s through the 60s. There were diner tables, 50s outfits, and even a picture of "The Fonz" on display, as well as my hotrod. I had to leave halfway through to get to my own set, and it was hard because the music was awesome!!

Thursday saw the return of Rosie Rocks! and man, did she ever!! RL had thrown her a few curveballs lately, and her set featured quite a bit of angry music. It did the trick, though, cuz by the end of the set we were all in a great mood!

Also on Thursday, Sly took the stream in place of the vacationing Ishi, and I hosted. Yep, I suck as a host. On the other hand, Sly totally rocks as a DJ and has an amazingly broad collection of music. You should definitely try to catch one of his sets, either at Freakheim or elsewhere. I'm hoping to get him into regular rotation at some point, so keep an eye on the calendar!

For his Saturday set, Oz had a "buccaneer" theme, complete with treasure chests, maps, loot, rum, and even a pirate ship inside the club! Everyone who came looked dashing, and the music was once again top-notch!

The decorations were so cool, I decided to leave them up for the Shred and my "Warriors" theme. Basically anyone who preferred to shoot first and ask questions later was eligible, and we had everything from pirates to a Trojan show up, armed to the teeth! I slid in a lot of different tunes, and even ended up going into overtime. The party was going along so well, I played till 8PM!

Stay tuned for more craziness, as this Wednesday Mn's Mid-Week Mania features the 80s, and Thursday brings Rosie Rocks! and the return of DJ Ishi. And, of course, plan to be at Freakheim on Saturday for Oz's Summer Camp set as well as the Saturday Shred!!

On Sunday, Gorgeous Guenevere DeCuir kicked off with a cross-dressing event. Guen will be playing Freakheim every other Sunday 3-5PM SLT, make sure you come out and rock with us! In theme with the event, Guen played a covers set, with some really outrageous tunes! Everyone who came had a killer time, and Camthan Hax won the contest with the outfit pictured below:

On Monday, April Coswell returned with her Monday Decapitation set that she does more or less every other Monday. We had a great turnout, and the tunes were superb! Anything & everything got into the mix, from Metal to Punk, to seriously bizarre requests; it was truly a celebration of having survived the beginning of the work week! As part of a Relay for Life wager, April agreed to spend a month blond & girly...take a good look at the pic below, by the time the next Monday Decapitation rolls around, April will be back to her edgy self!!

Wild, Crazy, Rockin' Saturday!!!

The festivities this past Saturday started off once again with Oz's set, a "Twisted Disney" theme. Lots of great costumes were seen, and Kaedy outdid herself with the decorations!! There were rainbows & bluebirds & butterflies, as well as Disney characters in compromising positions....in case ya ever wondered what they got up to when the cameras weren't rolling!

For his entire set, Ozark was "Sleeping Ozzy", complete with glass coffin! I didn't see the enchanted kiss that woke him, maybe it was just a frog! I missed the first half of the set due to computer issues, but the hour I was there completely kicked ass!!

The decorations were so over-the-top that we just left them up for the Saturday Shred, where we celebrated the immortals among us with an "Undead" theme. Yes, my streaming computer had been exorcised, and my mic once again worked. One of the various Micro$uck Updates had rendered my mic silent earlier in the day and I spent a couple hours troubleshooting it. Thanks to Rollback I was able to rock out as usual for the Shred.

Things are picking up at the club, though I will be disappearing into the void of school next week. Fear not, it will be business as usual and I'll be there for the Shred just like every Saturday. I will, however, be very scarce during the week, but Kaedy & Sly will keep things going. Don't forget to check out the mall next door to the club, containing the relocated Freaky Beaver, Collisions, FUBAR, and Masters of Lust.

Freakheim has moved!!

Freakheim Funeral Home has moved! Make sure you have the new LM, the old one will drop ya on an empty lot. Same rockin' place, and we have a new dance floor too! Tonight Oz's event will be "Household Accidents", so be prepared for blood & gore LOL!!! 3-5PM SLT @ Freakheim.

Following Oz will be the Saturday Shred from 5-7PM where we'll be "Playing Doctor!" L$500 will be on the board for best in Hospital.....naughty nurses, sadistic surgeons, even mad scientists are welcome!! Of course, patients are needed too, especially in those gowns with the open back......seeya there for fun & gropes!!

Kickass week & 200!!!!

This past week at Freakheim seriously kicked ass, and ended with a bang!! Inked Jewell did her first Freakheim set on Tuesday with a Retro event, and did an awesome job rocking the place!! Lots of new faces were in attendance, and everyone had a killer time!

On Thursday, Rosie Barthelmess made her Freakheim debut, and wow, what a set!! Rosie exposed her previously hidden Rocker side, and even the bodies downstairs were dancing! If you missed either of these two sets, make sure you catch them this week!!

Ishi also rocked the house, doing the 6-8 on Thursday and the 4-6 on Friday. Every time she plays, she continues to introduce me to more killer tunes I've never heard!!

Saturday was an unusual day at Freakheim, and the Rockinest one all week!! We started out by hosting Guen & Oz's wedding reception, and Kaedy did her usual phenomenal job of decorating the front lawn.

I got on the stream for an hour, then we were treated to killer live Blues from the UK provided by the awesome Blindboy Gumbo!! I had neglected to tell him that he'd be playing at a wedding party, but he jumped right in and kept the place hopping, including playing some incredible acoustic slide!! If you missed his set, make sure to watch the calendar, we'll be having him back again soon!

After Blindboy's set, I got on the air for another hour, and we moved the party inside the club. OZ took over at 4PM, and man, what a set!! We decided to have a Formal event so folks wouldn't have to change, and we had enough participation to boost the prize to L$1000!! Everyone looked great, and OZ was on such a roll that he played clean through till 7PM!! I enjoyed every minute of his set, just one kickass tune after another!!

Now for the "200" reference in the title: On Saturday evening, the Band of Freaks went over 200 members!! I know, there is always a little attrition from folks dropping the group for work reasons, etc., but it was still a major milestone. I appreciate each and every one of you who make the effort to stop by & let us rock you. Especially those who have Group membership issues due to their SL jobs. As I have said from the beginning, it's all about the music, and you Freaks have voted with your teleporters time and again by coming to Freakheim! We hope to continue bringing you the best music in SL, whether it be one of our kickass DJs or a live musician. If you hear a live musician or a DJ that you'd like us to bring to Freakheim, let me, Kaedy or Sly know & we'll try to get 'em in here. Thank you for beleiving in the music and making Freakheim a happening place!!

New shows on the schedule!!

As I mentioned in my last post, April Coswell will be doing the Monday Decapitation on a semi-regular basis from 4-6 PM. Tuesday will start out with tunes from the owner of SL's loudest insane asylum, Inked Jewell!! She'll be bringing her punked-out mayhem to Freakheim from 4-6 PM on Tuesdays, followed by the incomparable Trident Runningbear from 6-8 PM.

Myn Delling will have Myn's Mid-week Mayhem every now and then, so keep an eye on the calendar. Thursday brings yet another fresh set of tunes from Rockin' Rosie B.!! Rosie Barthelmess is no stranger to the turntables, and she'll be rockin' the dead from 4-6 PM, followed by the unique mix from DJ Ishi from 6-8 PM

Friday starts out with DJ Ishi from 4-6PM, and Trident Runningbear plays 6-9PM. This coming Saturday we have another live Blues set from Blindboy Gumbo from 2-3PM. If you missed his last appearance, you missed a killer show....don't miss this one!! Following Blindboy, I'll be kickin out the tunes for 4 hours straight!! It's Guen & Oz's wedding day, so I gave him the night off. He won't be far, though, because the reception is at Freakheim! Come on out & congratulate the happy couple and jam with The Freak Magnet from 3-7 PM!!

Wild, Rockin' week at Freakheim!!

The week started off with a new show, "Monday Decapitation", with tunes from April Coswell. Since it was Bastille Day, the songs had a theme of revolution & rebellion. There were an interactive guillotine & gallows set up, and quite a few of us lost our heads, including April! Monday Decapitation will be a regular set, it has also been called "The .44 Magnum of Music...guaranteed to blow your head clean off". Drop by Mondays 4-6PM SLT and listen for yourself!!

Wednesday roared in with Christmas in July, with tunes spun by Myn Delling! Myn does an occasional Wednesday set, so watch the calendar for when she's scheduled. Kaity outdid herself with the decorations, and Myn played all sorts of holiday tunes, from the heartwarming to the truly bizarre! Myn came by her Sick Twisted Freak tag honestly......make sure you catch her set, it's guaranteed fun!!

Thursday started off with my Metallic 80s set, which is going on hiatus for a while. The place definitely was rockin', and DJ Ishi picked up where I left off and kept the tunes blazing!!

Saturday started off with a live set from Texas Bluesman kelvinblue Oh. There was a great crowd for the early hour, and no wonder! This dude can seriously wail!!! Nothing like live electric blues to get your weekend rockin' n' rollin'!!!

This Rocker bunny won the contest at Oz's set by a landslide...what a cool avie!! Yep, that's our own Ishimaru going undercover and rockin out to some seriously wicked tunes!

Ah yes, Oz's set....in a play on last week's theme, this week's theme was "Kinks & Queers". There were a bunch of interactive toys on display, and the costumes were outrageous! Oz was the construction worker from The Village People, I was in a poodle skirt, and leather & latex were abundant! Things didn't get too freaky until Guen showed up wielding a giant spork...oh, the horror!!
I never did come up with a theme for the Shred, so we just had a "Best in Rockerwear" contest. The contest board filled up, and yes, the prize doubled!! Nothing like an extra L$1000 just for being a Rock-n-Roll Freak!!

Royal fun at Freakheim!!

This past Saturday started off with a "Kings & Queens" theme and the tunes were provided by none other than King Oz himself. As usual, his set seriously rocked out, and contained numerous tracks you'll only hear at Freakheim. I snapped this pic below of the King on his throne...seriously, he should use this in his profile!! Kaedy outdid herself decorating the place, it looked awesome!!

The Saturday Shred got off to a slightly late start, as Kaedy & I were part of my Li'l Sis' rededication ceremony. The reception was the Saturday Shred...how cool is that!! The main color was purple, so I had a Purple contest so folks wouldn't have to change. There was a great turnout, and everyone helped themselves to the goodies & wedding cake! Tunes kicked ass and ran the gamut from serious Metal to David Allan Coe.

Next week, Oz's theme will be a slight variation on this weeks..."Kinks & Queers". Use your imagination, I know there are definitely some kinks among the Freaks! I haven't decided upon a theme for the Shred, but I do know the tunes will rock your 2L!!!

Defeating The Purpose

One thing that clubs do to attract patrons is to have themed contests. It can be a great deal of fun, and it's a way to give back to the folks who regularly attend. There are a couple of problems I've noticed lately, and they tend to defeat the whole purpose of having a contest.

One of these is the group of organized contest cheaters. They will scan the Events listings for contests with large prizes and pop in just before voting begins. Once voting has opened, they TP in a bunch of folks who vote for them and immediately disappear. In this manner, they steal the prize from the loyal patron who has been at the set since the beginning. A quick profile scan of unfamiliar avies shows that they have at least one group in common to all of them. When you pull the group info, either it is not listed or it is blank. This is a dead giveaway that this is a cheater group. Another one is if the person has more votes than are avies in the club.

To stop this from happening, I have the contest boards at Freakheim set so that only Band of Freaks members can vote. It has worked pretty well, but we did have an instance of 3 or 4 folks from a cheater group joining BoF just to get around this. They were caught, however, when we tried to engage them in conversation. BoF has nearly 200 members, most of whom I know personally. Also, enrollment is by invitation only just to prevent this sort of cheating. If someone shows up with a BoF tag that neither myself, Kaedy or Sly knows, we will IM them to say hello, especially if they are not participating in general chat. When they fail to respond, we do a profile scan to check their groups and compare those groups to the groups of other unfamiliar avies. The last time we did this, we successfully thwarted a cheating attempt and ejected & banned those responsible.

I realize that posting this info may serve to give the cheaters a heads-up, but I'm hoping that it is helpful to my fellow club owners & managers as well.

The other behavior that defeats the purpose of the contest is the person that we like to refer to as "furniture". At one of the clubs I play, voting begins at 20 past the second hour. This person will rezz in at the top of that hour, dressed for the contest, and remain motionless until the end of the contest. They do not dance, and act offended if someone else happens to be occupying "their" spot. This has been going on so long that Kaedy & I sync my thrasher chim right in this very spot when I begin my set. When the furniture arrives, we end up Chuck Norrising right through her. She knows better than to say anything to me, but if other people come close she has a very nasty gesture. In addition to being a sofa in the middle of the dance floor, this person NEVER tips any of the staff. Ever. I realize that everyone likes to call attention to themselves during a contest. That's kind of the point. However, showing up just for the contest, not dancing, being rude to patrons & staff and expecting people to move out of "your" spot is annoying & juvenile.

The Infamous Ghost Host

I originally wrote this as a comment on UCBlack's blog, but decided to reprint it here:

My biggest complaint about hosts has been lack of communication.Let me acknowledge that I have never had this problem at SR. At several other venues, however, it was like pulling teeth to get the host to talk to me.

The host & DJ are a team. I need my host to keep an eye on the crowd, spot requests in open chat, make sure nobody's griefing my avie, etc. Not to mention the usual duties of spamming for me & keeping the convos going in chat. When I have a lot of requests pouring in, I have to concentrate on getting them in queue, replying to IMs from requestors, etc. There are huge periods of time when I'm not paying attention to what's on screen in SL. A good host keeps me updated and makes sure everything is running smoothly at the venue so I can concentrate on providing the tunes.

I should never have to ask the host who the dancers are (if any), and we need to consult on contest times, on-air announcements, etc. I guess I've been spoiled by the fantastic staff at SR, since I measure all hosts against these professionals.

The lack of competent hosting has actually led me to the point where I often bring my own staff when doing a guest slot at a venue. I need someone I know I can rely on. I realize that there are many great hosts all over SL, but the quality of my show depends on me being able to concentrate primarily on the music.

Embarrassed To Death

This past Saturday, Oz decided to host an Embarrassme(v)ent....where the theme was to show up in an outfit you swore you'd never wear again!! Amazing how some of us never throw that stuff away, just in case we may need it someday! Oz changed several times throughout the evening, and finally settled on a Naughty Nurse getup. In the pic below, he's wearing the reddest coat I've ever seen! And Guen has grey hair!! The tunes were kickass as usual, one thing about Freakheim is you're guaranteed to hear tunes played nowhere else inworld!

And now for the death part.....since many people think it is possible to die of embarrassment, the theme for my event was Murder. Most of the songs had themes of killing, or at least death in general. Amazing how many musicians have murderous thoughts!! We even had a train parked on the front lawn in case you needed to throw someone in front of it. Inside were an interactive gallows & guillotine, as well as several corpses, both fresh and stale. The cops never did show up though...I guess the payoffs worked! The costumes ranged from mild to wild, and once again we had a 4-way tie in the contest

Even after my autopsy, someone felt it was a good idea to make sure I was good and dead and hanged my corpse. Oh well, I guess you'll have to find another DJ for the Saturday Shred!

Riiiiight! Remember......I'm undead? Just needed to put the ol' neck in traction for a few minutes is all. See ya next Saturday, when we'll have Inked Jewell as our special guest DJ following the Shred from 7-9PM SLT!!

Dress-up Saturday

We decided to shake things up a bit at Freakheim this weekend. Since the skimpiest costumes imaginable are the norm...and way smexxxy too...we wanted to see what all of ya looked like all dressed up. The evening started out with a formal Masquerade Ball, and the outfits were stunning! Even my bro-in-law Xen ditched his famous tube sox for a dashing tux!!

The one & only Oz provided a memorable soundtrack to the evening, and was absolutely dressed to the nines!
The fair lady Guenevere lived up to her "Gorgeous Guen" moniker and carried on the purple & black theme...they were quite the couple!
In order to avoid folks having to change between events, I carried on with a Gothic Formal event. The tunes were wild as usual, and heavy on the Gothic Metal. Some people did change outfits, others simply removed their masks, and everyone seemed to have a blast!! I was able to TP in a couple folks who don't normally make the Freakheim sets, it was good to have new faces at the Funeral Home!
I had a long day Saturday, starting with the aforementioned SL5B set at 8AM, the Shred from 5-7, and Sanctuary Rock fill from 8-10PM. Between those sets I was catching as much music as I could, shuttling between friends' sets at SL5B and various clubs. There were a few of you who also were at every set I played Saturday...thanks so much!!! You have no idea how much I appreciate it when you come, and am glad you let me rock your 2L!! I hope my sets never get boring or predictable, I strive to put on a unique, kickass show every time I fire up SAM. We have a wild Saturday planned for next week as well at Freakheim, so tell your friends where the best party in 2L is and TP them down!!!

Well, I brought True Metal to SL5B........and at one point had 5 on my Thrash Chim!! Started out on a tear and never did let up.......musically.

Unfortunately, it was a typical weekend in SL...crashadelic. I had a decent crowd for such an early set, I absolutely love ya my Freaks!!! Trouble was, every time more than 10 people showed up, the damn sim crashed. 5 times in a 2-hour set.....FFS, that's plain ridiculous!!! And it wasn't just my sim, the whole SL5B kept crashing, and crashing, and crashing.....would have been funny if not so sad. To those of you who kept coming back again and again.....thank you SO much....I'm here to rock your 2L.....come by Freakheim later on for more kickass tuneage without the PG limitations. I was SO tempted to play Biohazard's "Fuck the Rules" after the 4th crash. But I didn't. I played by the rules. It's a shame that the "organizers" didn't.

First off, I'd like to thank the folks that worked their asses off to organize the DJs...Chel Norfolk, JewelKicker Spearman, and others whose names I don't know. Awesome job getting the schedules worked out & dealing with all the crazy questions in the chat.

What pisses me off is that appearing at SL5B was supposed to allow the DJs to introduce themselves to a new audience and give them much needed exposure. Turns out that the DJs were responsible for bringing in their own crowd. I'm very fortunate to have a huge fan base, some of whom are on at any given hour. But what about those who don't? Just like the majority of club owners, the SL5B operation did nothing to direct people to the DJ sets. Look folks, we're professional entertainers just like the live musicians. We play for twice as long, and spend just as much or even more on music, equipment, computers and so forth. So why the fuck are we treated as expendable?

The Rock/Metal venue was smaller than the other two DJ venues, even though the Rock DJs were the largest group. And, unlike the venues for live musicians, the stream was only heard within 10m of the gazebo--not across the whole parcel. If folks could have been anywhere in the immediate area and heard the set, maybe they would've come on in. But then that would have crashed the sim. Can't win for losing. Makes me wonder if the "music industry" is in cahoots with the organizers....keep the good music away from people who may actually LIKE music with a melody & turn their back on that hiphop & pop crap peddled these days.

Some dumbass decided to put the rockers out in the sticks to fend for themselves...so be it. We're everywhere....and will continue to turn the amps up to 13...Metal will never die!!!!

Metallic 80s Tonight!! 4-6PM

Crazy Saturday at Freakheim!!

This past Saturday started out with Freakheim being converted into a hospital..complete with surgery tables, exam chairs, drugs, and even an MRI machine!! Patrons came dressed as doctors, nurses & patients, and took advantage of the interactive medical equipment. Oz rocked the place with a set where every band or song title had to contain a body part and everyone had a blast!

Kaedy and Rawenna were the naughty nurses on staff, Oz looked official in his lab coat, and I was in scrubs, looking for anyone who needed blood drawn. We even had a body part avatar on the floor, as Damian changed into his dick avie....pics wouldn't do it justice, you just have to see it in person! Fuckin hilarious!! I was having so much fun I had to rush when it was time for my set!

By suggestion of a Freak, my set was a Spankfest!! Smacks filled the air, and sore bottoms were in abundance. I love it when I can bring out the spanko in folks.... the music was wild & crazy, and I was able to find & play everything requested. A good friend I hadn't seen in a while stopped in for the set, it was great to see her!! Only a couple folks dared try the spanking machine, and nobody was brave enough for the interactive couch....we'll have to work on that for next time!! The pic below is of the winner of the "Most Spankable" contest......and I couldn't agree more!!

Starting next Saturday, the Saturday Shred will be shortened to 2 hours, 5-7PM SLT. The 3-hour set allows for more killer tunes, but it's a long time to stay in one place in SL. The whole idea is for the patrons to have fun, and participate in the contests, so hopefully with a shorter set we'll have greater participation, especially from those who don't get on the board because they know they can't stay till 8PM. Make sure you tell your friends that Freakheim is the place to be on Saturdays....definitely the rockinest 4 hours anywhere inworld!!

Metallic 80s Comes to Freakheim!!!

For the past few months I've been doing a Metallic view of the 80s at Club Rockaway. Yes, there was true Metal in the 80s...I was there...bangin my head on the stage and making a $3000 guitar sound like a cat in a blender. Well, I've decided to move that set here to Freakheim....no PG rating, anyfuckinthing goes!!!! Now I can play the live G-n-R & Metallica and all the other kickass tunes you request!! Saturday's festivities started out with a live concert featuring the "Basstastic Perversions" of Dolmere Talamasca. This set seriously kicked ass, if you missed it, stay tuned for the next one! His stage set perfectly complemented the club, and the music was otherworldly!!

Following Dolmere, I subbed for the vacationing Oz and spun the sounds for the Tinies event. There was a wide range of avies present, and Dolmere even suited up and hung around!

Since I was doing the Tinies event, I shortened the Shred to 5-7 and had a Fantasy theme. The killer tunes kept rolling, and the costumes were even wilder than before!! Thanks to the recent "upgrade", there were attachment issues, and only about half the crowd could see my hair. After rebaking, relogging, and repeating, I said the hell with it. Eventually, my hair appeared for everyone and the set ended on a high note. Didn't really get any good pix, since all my free time was spent trying to remedy the attachment issues and fetching tunes. I'm booked every day this coming week, so if ya get a chance come on out & hear me!!

This past Saturday's entertainment started off with a live set from the UK's own Blindboy Gumbo! He spent the whole set doing requests, and had the place jumping!! Look for a return engagement in the near future, you have to hear him!!

Next was Ozark's set...we decided to have a beach/pool party!!! The place was crawling with scantily dressed women, including Freakheim's own Electric Emmons!! For some reason, there was a shortage of guys in attendance, but that just meant more ladies for me & Oz!!

The Saturday Shred this week was themed "Under the Covers", with a full set of cover tunes that lasted well over 3 hours!! The contest was Best in Sleepwear, and it continued the scantily clad theme!! I tell ya, no better way to spend Saturday night than with a bunch of Rockin', barely dressed women!!

The theme for next week's Shred is "Raining Blood", with a prize for best Vampire attire...make sure you bring your fangs, Freakheim is sure to be drenched in blood!!!

As most of you know, I'm a big champion of Relay for Life, having held events both at my club and on my home island. I have also donated 100% of my tips from several Saturday sets to Relay. I am a member of the Spinners for Life team but will volunteer my services for any team that asks. Except one. I was asked to wrap up a four-day extravaganza of entertainment sponsored by another Relay team. The scheduled slot was later than I usually work on a weeknight, but the cause was worthy and I agreed to a 6-9PM slot on Monday.

I arrived at the event venue about an hour before my scheduled set to listen to the live musician preceding me and send out notices to my Groups. Quite a few folks TP'ed in immediately, since I told them that the live act was awesome (he was). About 10 minutes before 6PM, I was informed by one of the event promoters that the musician would be playing an extra half hour because "he does 90 minutes". Obviously, I had already sent notices, etc. No apology was given. I IMed the Group to advise them of my later start time and continued to enjoy the live show.

There were about 25 people at the venue in addition to the folks that I had brought. I should have taken it as an omen, but at 6:23 my cable went out. I switched to my backup DSL ISP and was back at the venue by 6:25. The live act ran until 6:38, when I was notified that my stream was live. Within 10 minutes, the event promoters and their friends left. I didn't get an IM to the effect of "hey, RL calls, we're heading out, thanks for playing" or anything of the sort. The promoter said in open chat "I'm heading to X, anyone want a TP?" No mention of the DJ who was (finally) spinning, no thanks, no apology for the delays, nothing. SOB's TPed the entire audience out.

Well, tell ya what, next time you ask for a favor, the answer will be "fuck no". There is no excuse for abandoning an act who you have booked to perform. My RL schedule is hectic, and my DJ slots are usually booked at least 2 weeks in advance. My time is just as valuable as that of the live musicians. I have no tolerance for club owners who fail to do their part in promoting me, and an event coordinator who does not even extend the courtesy of attending my performance shows an arrogance and disrespect that is noteworthy. Any further bookings from you will require my standard appearance fee UP FRONT.

The set was not a total disaster, however, thanks to some loyal listeners who stuck it out & stayed for the set. They basically had a private DJ, since their requests went in queue immediately! A thousand thanks, I ended up having fun after all. And between their tips (which I paid into the kiosk) and donations sent by those who could not attend, Relay collected another L$3000. The other good news is, I have sets scheduled every day this week, so check my profile for times & venues and come on out!!

For two hours on Saturday, the Funeral Home was turned into a zoo!! Creatures of all kinds, both natural & mythical descended on Freakheim for a rockin' set of animal themed music from the fabulous Ozark Hax!

I really hope everyone noticed the "Beware of Dragon" sign!!!

Following cleanup, the Saturday Shred kicked off, with three hours plus of music featuring female artists. Showcasing the women who rock our musical world is always one of my favorite sets!

Next week's theme is 'Under the Covers"....three hours of cover tunes, the wackier the better!

On Friday, 23 May, Freakheim Funeral Home welcomed DJ Ishimaru Kohime to the family! Ishi put on a seriously rockin' set and we even had a visit from a Transformer! Ishi will have a regular slot on Fridays from 4-6 Pm SLT, so put it on your calendar to come down to Freakheim and hear her unique mix of Hard Rock, Metal, JRock and more!!!

From 6-9 PM, DJ Trident Runningbear spun an "old-school" set...but no rocking chairs were allowed!! Classic Rock & Metal flowed for 3 straight hours, tunes we all remembered but hadn't thought of in ages....some since my last 8-track deck died! Tri's musical tastes are as diverse as mine, and I just can't tear myself away from his sets. It was great to be able to take the headphones off & run the sound thru the studio monitors!!

Opening week went really well, with all sets as scheduled. Attendance has been a little sparse early in the week, but it should pick up as more folks get accustomed to us being open. I am also working on adding a second set on weekdays. Currently I'm looking for DJs for 4-6PM SLT Tuesday through Friday, so if that fits your schedule let me know. I am also bringing in more live acts on Saturdays, so keep an eye on the calendar.

This past Saturday marked the debut of Ozark Hax at Freakheim, and it kicked ass! The theme was Asian wear, and everybody looked awesome! I saw a few folks I hadn't seen in a long time, so I spent most of the set catching up with them. Thanks for coming out! The female contest ended in a 4-way tie, the first time that's happened at Freakheim!

Following Ozark's set, the theme for the Saturday Shred was "Redneck Nite". This theme was by request and was definitely different from my usual sets here. I played Southern Rock, Country, Bluegrass and requests. There was also some cow-tipping going on, as well as the bouncing cattle. I was literally LOL in the studio! Though there weren't a lot of folks at the set, everyone who came had fun. Both the male and female contests ended in ties, 2-way for male and 3-way for female. SL musician Ictus Belford and his lovely wife Carrie Laysan dropped by after Ictus' gig and we all traded Redneck credentials. Look for Ictus to play Freakheim soon, I can't get enough of his live sets!

Next week's Shred returns to more familiar music as we celebrate the women of Rock-n-Roll with a Rockergrrrlzzz! theme. I'll be spinning tunes by female bands and bands with female singers or musicians in them. Bring your favorite Rockergrrrl requests & I'll slide 'em in for ya! The contest will be Rockerwear, so just show up in your rockin' best & get on the boards. Remember, if the page on the contest board fills up, I increase the prize!

Grand Opening was a roaring success!!

I'd like to personally say thank you to each and every one of you who came out to the Grand Opening of Freakheim Funeral Home. The party started at 10AM SLT and went nonstop until 9PM SLT. Yes, there were a few glitches (special thanks to April for the last-minute kickoff fill) but all-in-all we rocked the joint!! The RAILS played live from Toronto, Canada at 3PM and sounded superb! Due to ISP issues, Sam couldn't make her 4PM slot, so I stayed on the tables 5 hours straight and had a great time doing it!!!My Li'l Sis hosted the 4-6 event, and the 6-9 event started out as the Giant Lolli Paddle Battle 2008!! Insane fun, for sure. I made some new friends throughout the day, and brought two more DJs on board, look for them on the calendar soon! In the end, it's all about the music, and plenty of that was on hand. A relaxed, low-lag atmosphere where Freaks & Nutters can concentrate on the tunes & the camaraderie without the BS. For those of you who couldn't make it, come on by when you can, you'll be glad you did!!
